8 lessons in each module. Units 1-6 introduce 20-25 new words per lesson, while 7-9 introduce 30-35 new words. 1-6 share the same structure. While 7-9 are structured differently. If you have listened to module 9 you know what they are like. There certainly isn't any newer course of this quality available today. The closest is probably the CCTV-9 courses hosted by DaShan. However while they contain natural language at natural pace they are not very good on the drill side, which is where FSI really stands out. I guess only the U.S. government has the financial means to produce courses of this quality. It seems that other course just haven't been designed to produce functional speakers of Mandarin. I'll certainly pay for the modules I haven't bought yet. I think it is a great initiative by you delectric. I am currently using Platiquemos, but am interested in digitizing FSI Basic Spanish. I have found a used set of tapes, but am unsure as to any copyrights that might be applicable. The listed publisher is Ampro Productions, I looked them up on line, but could not find any information. I contacted the seller, but all they could tell me was that it was produced for the Foreign Service Institute (which I of course already knew). Does anyone have any information about the existence of a copyright here?

Not sure about the original FSI courses, but as long as you don't distribute, you can digitise any course you own. BTW, what do you think about Platiquemos?

All FSI versions of Basic Spanish that are not Platiquemos are legal to share.

The Basic Spanish in Barron's is not copyrighted, however, the cultural notes which they have adopted from other Spanish programs that they have already produced are. I don't have my book right now but I think it says that they are from Spanish the Fast in Fun Way and some other one they made before they copied the FSI audio. So far I really like Platiquemos, unfortunately I can not give a thorough review yet, because I am only on lesson 5.
I know. I was interested in digitizing FSI Spanish for a little extra practice and for others to use.
Thats pretty much the question I had. So far I would only have access to the audio, and only part of it - but if it is legal that would atleast give others a free start, and a good idea of what FSI is all about. 1 person has voted this message useful |
