My primary goal for 2010 is to learn how to not squander my free time. I do have a busy life, but I think that by managing my time better, I have enough free time to actually do some decent language study. My language specific goals are as follows:
Russian: I would like to reach B2 or even C1 if possible. I plan on doing this by reading and L-Ring as much as possible. My primary obstacles are currently a lack of vocabulary and poor aural comprehension. If I can improve both of these, I will have made significant progress and will probably feel comfortable saying I have 'basic fluency'.
French: I would love to reach B1 by the end of the year. I intend on first completing Assimil French with Ease which can apparently take me to a B2 level. I'm not quite sure that the course is that comprehensive, but I think I can make good progress if I supplement it with some additional materials. Perhaps I will L-R some texts once I've completed Assimil.

I'm going to try to set some modest goals that I should be able to live up to.
- Reach basic fluency in Spanish. I should be comfortable in non-technical onversation
with native speakers.
- Brush off dusty French. During the year I intend to complete French in Action and
FSI Basic.
- By year's end, I want to have read a couple of classic works of literature in each
language.
* If I am successful with the above goals for 2010, I would also like to begin German
or Ancient Greek.

To continue pushing my Italian and Spanish forward, and get to basic fluency with
Portuguese. And hopefully to travel across Latin America to practice :)

For English: Improve my English vocabulary to a level I don't have to look up a lot of words anymore in advanced texts (such as the Economist), currently I guess I am somewhere around 15-20K words only want to reach at least somewhere around 30-35K next year.
For Spanish: Finish the Platiquemos and Assimil Spanish course.

January - April (2nd semester this year)
Italian Finish Barron's Self Study Course, then do Pimsleur Comprehensive I and
II. Write a letter to an Italian friend.
Spanish Get an A in the university course I am taking.
May - August (Summer Vacation)
Italian Finish Pimsleur Comprehensive III, read an Italian novel. Hopefully by
this point I can speak well and will only need to improve literacy.
Spanish Practice what I learnt over the winter so I don't forget it for the
coming fall.
French I am pretty good with French, but I have been letting it slide. I'd like
to read a few French books and watch a couple movies too.
German I got a Pimsleur German Basic set for $2, so I might as well give it a
try!
Catalan Just familiarize myself with the language, maybe do an online course.
September - December (1st semester next year)
Italian I intend to be at an advanced level by this point, and only need to
refine skills.
Spanish Continue with the Spanish certificate programme at school.
Continue Catalan and/or German

Plans for 2010:
FRENCH: Maintain the same level I currently have. I'd also like to expand my vocabulary, perhaps learning 1-3 new words/phrases per week. If I have time and inclination, I would also love to become familiar with Old French, but that one could wait a year or two.
SWAHILI: Attain basic fluency. At the moment, what I really need to work on is (a) vocabulary expansion, (b) more complex grammar, and (c) practicing! I'll be taking a Swahili class for at least part of the year, but I'd like to add some mini goals on top of that to make sure I'm still progressing. 1) Read at least one children's book per month; 2) Finish TY independently by summer (even if the class never gets there); 3) Take any chance I get to practice speaking and listening. I'm dying to go to East Africa, but I may have to put that on the back burner for another year.
LATIN: Attain basic fluency. This may be tough, since I've struggled much more with Latin than with Swahili. Mini goals: 1) Do a little bit of Latin every day, even if it really is very very little; 2) Finish reading Lingua Latina I; 3) Finish with Wheelock (40 chapters...oof); 4) Begin reading actual primary documents in the original Latin.
OTHER: Maintain sanity :)
Good luck everyone!!!

Japanese: Study for the JLPT3N. (Depending, I think I might have failed the JLPT3 due to total fail on listening, so I might actually take the 4N, I'm not sure. But with vocabulary and grammar, I'm ready to move on.)
Finish the next 4 classes at Sokogakuen (Japanese Language school in the area). The text is Situational Functional Japanese, Volumes 3 and 4.
Practicing drawing all the characters in "essential Kanji" at a pace which gets me through all of the characters in about 6 months. 100/week
Start over again, and then write out all the characters from Remembering the Japanese characters (come July-December.)
Make another attempt at Harry Potter, or maybe some other easier listening project. Do this every day.
Study all of the verb, adverbs, and I-Adjectives in the JLPT2 word lists.
Finnish: Teach Yourself Finnish. One chapter/two weeks. Read over the chapter at least once, and then read the text every day for the rest of the week, and listen to the CD, at least 5 times in two weeks. Do the exercises on the alternate weekends.
German: Do something with German every day. My forgotten high school language. No real goals here, but do something. Are there any German IRC chat networks?
