I am a third of the way to what is claimed as the time needed for A1 level in Arabic. Truthfully though, I feel that
I am already at that level, especially at the spoken level. I feel that my reading and writing skills are at a far
lower level than my speaking skills, if for no other reason than that my current text is nearly half over and I have
not yet touched on any verbs. This coming week I am planning on beginning some FLR work with my TY text to
see if I can move along my reading and writing skills. I will still also use the Mastering Arabic text as I have been,
the FLR work will be in supplement to what I already do.
On another note, I have finished the Michel Thomas beginner course and now need to move on to the Advanced.
I am running into a snag however, because I cannot obtain the Advanced course through inter-library loan. This
means that I will probably have to break down and buy the course outright on half.com. I hate spending money.

Blast! I have been horrible about this thing lately! Anywho I have been terribly unproductive this week. On the plus side I just bought an Arabic phrasebook with which I am going to begin the FLR process.

I wanted to begin FLR today, but was severely lacking in motivation. I seem to be in a rough patch currently.
Hopefully I can pull myself out of it and get back to week 1 study hour totals soon.

I anticipate getting to the one-fifth point of my hours necessary to reach A2 according to the chart at the
beginning of this log tomorrow (30 hours). I am a bit behind where I would like to be time-wise this month; my
goal was to be at 50 hours by day 30. It seems as though that is not going to happen, barring some massive
studying over the next few days (i.e. 4.28 hrs./day) which I do not really have time for. On day 30 I will conduct
an assessment of how far I have come this month and what I should focus on next month.

I intend to finish Chapter 11 once I get home from work, but I currently am feeling sick to my stomach and thusly
not up for studying at the moment. I had two funny/interesting/encouraging things happen to me today dealing
with Arabic however. The first is that in the course of my dreams today some Arabic crept in; I could not tell you
what was being said, but it was definitely Arabic. Secondly, I was reading through US Weekly tonight at work
(caveat: I do not normally read said magazine) and I found myself continually reading the magazine articles from
right to left, although still flipping through the proper way I always started with the article farthest to the right
and worked my way left.

Really?!?! 0.04 hours away from 30 hours total? That's obnoxious. Today I was introduced to the final of the
cases in Arabic and in the next chapter I am finally going to get to attack verbs. I started taking notes on the
things I read instead of just reading and trying to internalize; I often forget that the kinetic aspect of learning is
terribly helpful to me retaining things.

It has been a frustrating time of late with this language. I feel as though I am not nearly as close to where I want
to be at this point. My self-assessment revealed that I have accomplished seemingly little this month. While I
know this is not true, it shows that this language is going to take me a little longer than anticipated to get to
where I want it to be. I feel like I am lacking most in input in almost all its forms. I am finally beginning to be
fed some verbs through my text, but I would like to start reading some things to help build my vocabulary and
understanding. There are some bilingual children's books out there that I have seen that I am contemplating
purchasing and starting with them, moving up in difficulty once I can understand at least 95% of a book at this
level.
Wanderlust confession: For the last couple of weeks I have been struggling with the urge to pick up Korean. This
is odd because up to this point in my life I have had little to no urge to learn an asiatic language, but for whatever
reason lately it has been appearing to be a good and logical choice to my brain.
