Est-ce que tu es inscrite au DALF? Quand veux-tu le passer?? x comment fais-tu pour améliorer ton accent??? tu parles avec quelqu'un?? x est-ce que tu travailles surtout le vocabulaire et la grammaire ou bien le côté "speaking/listening" (parler/écouter) ?? x est-ce que tu fais beaucoup de "shadowing"? Hi polyglossia, thanks for your questions. Sorry I can't respond properly in French -- I'm in a bit of a rush. Je suis pressé! :)
I'm not sure yet. I don't want to register until I'm sure that I can speak. I have a lot to do! I think I can register 3 weeks before the test (July 2) -- I have to check that...
shadowing works. I'm not very consistent, though. I need to do it every day until the test (if I take the test)
ehm. Well I'm trying to do some elementary translation. It's a good way to check my syntax/word order. par exemple: Elle a en pris un.(X) Elle en a pris un.(OK)

So, like I said I've stopped at lesson 80 with Assimil.
I've been reading outloud from Qui joue avec le feu. I was reading silently, but now I only read outloud. I've made it to chapter 5. The story is pretty shallow, but not all that bad. I find when I concentrate too technically on reading outloud I end up having no idea what I'm reading. So I've also been picking out passages from 1-4 and rereading them. The book is a good choice. I only have to look up a phrase or two, so the level is appropriate. I read about 30 minutes during a walk yesterday I have an old Langenscheidt book for tourists that I started reading out of yesterday. Just some beginner dialogues at the grocery store and on the telephone. I read for about 30 minutes while standing in front of the mirror. One of my 7th-grade-English-learners told me to try it! :) Today I read two sections (40 min), coupled with the excercises at the end. I'll try to be consistent with reading outloud. I haven't read any more of Qui joue avec le feu this week, but I think I'll be able to go out tomorrow and walk while I read -- kind of a spin on shadowing. I don't really feel like it's shadowing because I murmur and stumble, rather than speak and walk. I won't be writing any books on it.
I've been listening to CoffeeBreak French (the earlier episodes) because so much of the stuff they use is ..well, usable. It's a goal of mine to be able to speak before June and I think it's helping me to just listen and try to form my own sentences. I have been consistent with reading aloud, but it hasn't been as much as I wanted. I'm trying to step up the number of minutes -- but things get in the way. Actually it's good. Every time I get interrupted it sort of galvanizes my determination to do more. Task for Sunday. Get through chapter 6 and 7. I've already read 5. It's gorgeous outside so it's a perfect opportunity to get out and read. I'll be taking my book outside as soon as I do some stuff for German..

I went out for an hour today and listened to écoute. I'll finish chapter 8 of Qui joue avec le feu, and it looks promising that I'll be able to finish the rest (9,10) before the weekend.
I just got Schüsse in Versailles, Coups de feu à Versailles from Amazon.de today, and I was curious about the level, and I found a PDF from the publisher.. Here's where the title is,, right up there at B2! yikes. Amazon didn't even give me a hint that this was B2. Ho! This is gonna be interesting.. I've ordered another one from Amazon, but I don't see the title ("Tödliches Rendevous") it's not on the chart... It's A2, I think, because it says, "für geübte Anfänger" on the front. So I've got one A2 book and one B2 book.. I think I'll order one of the ones, B1 from amazon, too. I have the chart + titles from the publisher, so I can't go wrong! EDIT: okay, I've ordered a third book (B1). "Tod unterm Eiffelturm" and it says it's got a CD with it -- not bad! Now I really have to stop buying books because between French and German I'm running out of money and bookshelf space!! Here's what I did over the past couple of days..
March 23 Dictation (CD) of two paragraphs French (first 1-2 years of foreign language in high school) made a quiz for myself to check translation of simple sentences like, "I only have one hour", "these are mine, those are yours" etc. I'll eheck my knowledge of the sentences in a couple of days.. chapter 8 QJAF looked at the first two pages of Rendez-vous mortel (idiotic) spent 2 hours surfing the Internet, looking for stuff to download (what a waste of time). I ended making plans for buying a book when I reach B2 (???) plus the CD, which I can order easily from Amazon.de (Amazon.de's English books section sells -almost- all of what you can get from Amazon.fr.. The selection is not great but it's better than surfing the net, looking for free stuff.) March 24 passive listening of Assmil chapters 80-?, trying to see if I can understand anything. Reading (again) the first few pages of Rendez-Vous Mortel (Level A2) and looking up unknowns, making index cards for new vocab chapter 8 QJAF (finished) March 25 looking up the unknown phrases from Chapter 8 QJAF doing the quiz I made a few days ago and making corrections. I'll make a 2nd quiz out of the stuff I missed and retake it in a few days... That's all I've been able to manage so far. Out of all the books I've bought recently I've chosen to read Meurs, mon amour because it came with a CD. It's great! I'm not at the level of the book --B1--, though. If I were to benchmark myself, I'd say I'm wavering somewhere between A2 and B1. Actually it doesn't matter! I just wanted to say that it's probably going to take me a month to get through this tiny book of 53 pages.
Part of that's due to the fact I've been trying to read some tough German stuff (economics), so it's slow-going.. I'm planning to study a page a day and listen to the CD. I'm also keeping track of new vocab, using the same method with the index cards that I've created for new German vocab. The words begin on page 5 and I can check that page off as "done". I've read it at least twice, looked up all the unknown words, and I've listened to the CD. It will be very slow, but I have to remember Edison: 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration. I can apply that well to language learning! I've finished Chapitre 9 Qui joue avec le feu. I can't read 10 today because I have some other stuff to do for German.
