When I told Northern Italian dialects are closer to Standard Italian than Southern ones I have not been clear , I admit it.
I spoke about dialects but what I meant was "Regional variant of the Italian language" and you should admit that Regional forms of Italian (which means Standard Italian language + some regional expressions, words and constructions) of the north are less influenced by the proper dialect than southern ones.

This makes more sense, and this also corresponds to what I have learned and experienced in regard to the language situation in Italy.

Oh yes, but that raises a new question. If speakers of standard Italian in the North are less prone to let the local dialect (or (proto-)language) influence their way of speaking standard Italian than Southern Italians are, is that then a result of having a local dialect that is closer to standard Italian, or what? Or is it something cultural, such as having more money and another style of living?

So you open a total different subject . I will answer soon. I am happy that you are not a Lega Nord supporter .
It would be nice if you drop coomunism too.
About your new subject i'll let you know my opininon.
Sorry if sometimes I am little bit a fighter, but I just joke . Nothing serious . Ciao

I think the explanation is like the one in Germany - the North Italian and North German languages/dialects are so far removed from the national language that it is learned as a new language, whereas speakers of dialects closer to the national language can continue to use the dialects and speak a language that approximates to the national standard.

Linguamor you are right.!!
Southern italian dialects can be easily understood by many northern Italians , and this is the reason of the success of southern actors like Massimo Troisi(Naples) Alberto Sordi (Rome) and others , they don't need subtitles in their movies .......everybody can understand if they use vernacular expressions. it is not the same for northern actors, they speak with their accent but they cannot use their dialects . We have also a famous writer Andrea cammilleri that writes in a funny language that can be called Italo-siciliano that everybody can read and understand all over the country and his Tv fiction is very succesfull.
I don't think the same work can be done with a northern dialect, except for venetian.
So Easyboy , sorry but my opinion is still the same and prouved by facts . Take your time to think about and answer me ( usually you need 5 months to make up your mind so....see you in june)...
