I just made a thread in the Technical Room about poll problems so we have all forum bug issues placed together in one room. I tried logging out and in but that didn't reset my voting rights, but a few minutes later, I've returned to this thread and now I have the option to cast another vote.

Strange, I haven't seen any glitches. It's consistently told me "You have already voted in this poll."

Contrary to me. I voted on another day. Today I can read "Cast my vote".

Alright. I just logged off and back in and it says "cast my vote."

But this is also distracting from the topic of this thread.

I'm for positive and negative votes, there's been times when I've been reading through a discussion and I'll come across a random post that brings nothing to the discussion and in all fairness, could be considered as spam, so it would be cool to negative vote it. If it received so many negative votes, it would be 'hidden' but can still be viewable if people want to read it. I've seen this implemented on other communities and I quite liked it ~ :)

Now this is why I think these votes mean nothing: some people write really useful answers to someone's query and get no votes for their pains. Whereas others get masses of votes for just opening their mouths, for posts that are neither interesting nor useful, just because the poster is acclaimed as an experienced polyglot. This one post for instance. What was so useful about that post? It wasn't even funny. I have nothing against the poster personally, I don't know him, but I think that the content of this particular post did not warrant the votes it got. Those votes are a joke, the post itself isn't. And votes attributed to nondescript posts are plentiful, I'm afraid.
Because of that kind of vote-scattering the whole system becomes pretty useless. Like Patuco, I personally give very few votes, except when there's something that I find really useful, not just for me, but for others as well. Like outcast's posts about linking, and about changing the background colour of pages. Because that was something that had been irritating me for a long time. But... that was useful just for me and a handful of others, and means nothing in the whole concept of how-to-learn-any-language.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to say that I voted "No votes" as I trust neither positive nor negative votes, they're all too subjective and often given for the totally wrong reason.
