I've only just stumbled upon this thread, but I'm glad since it is so interesting. My main reason for
learning Russian is for a specific job opportunity.I'll know by next spring if I can get it or not.if not,
the effort required to maintain or sustain whatever level Russian I get to by then may not be worth it
to me. I love reading and the main opportunity cost for me in my studies so far has been Russian
study time replacing personal reading for pleasure time. If I don't get this specific job, Spanish would
be more useful for where I live and reading (English) would be more fulfilling personally. Time will tell
:) though I must say I do realize I'm quite fortunate that, as a native English speaker, the majority of
the world is quite accessible to me regardless of my effort to learn another language

English is the second most important language. (One's native tongue is the most important for one.)

I voted for "Chinese". Spanish is useful in Latin America...and in Latin Europe if I may say so :D

I like that person's post about being sad that English is the most important language. As a native
English speaker.
Language-betrayer? It's like everyone here wants English to die out so they can show off other
languages.
