Congratulations on the successful conversation!
I don't encounter Francophones much where I live, but I do know that the husband of one of the apartment complex managers here is French. I sometimes see him walking his dog around here, but I'm nowhere near confident enough in my skill to talk to a stranger like that yet.
Hope you get the job. I'm sure that would be an excellent learning experience.

Hello again! It has been a while as a result of my exams, time for a quick catch up!
So my exams are finished, but to be honest I am pretty much sure that I will be
repeating next year. Apart from French, everything felt like an exercise in trying to
remember things that I hadn't seen in months, or even a year. That's what you get when
you hardly do any study! I'm not going to dodge the fact that I was lazy...
All that means that I will be working hard away at my French for the next year, as well
as re-sitting my exams. Hopefully it will still be possible to apply to France this
year with the results I will receive in August 2013. I'll be looking all that up in the
next few days now that the exams are finished.
I realise that trying to do these two things is a tall order, but I'm sure I can do it.
I don't brag at all in saying this, but going from A1/A2 to a decent B2 in 3-4 months
shows that I can do something when I put my mind to it.
As for what I've been doing lately with French, the answer is not much. Pretty much all
of my daily routines have stopped except for listening and reading. Luckily my level is
still pretty good, and I've talked on Xbox for 6 hours in the past 3 days which has
been an enormous help.
I can't help feeling a bit disappointed when I think what my level might have been like
right now if I'd have worked hard this last month. But there isn't any point having
regrets, and from some posts I've read, it seems like I'm not the only one to have been
hyper-active in my learning and then slow down for a while.
So my intention is to slowly get back into it starting tomorrow, easing myself back
into my habits. No promises, we'll see what happens ;) I definitely need tonight to
rest though, sitting exams for 3 hours is so exhausting!

Today went well. I read about 15 pages of L'étranger and did some vocaulary exercises.
It's not a lot, but just enough to start easing myself back into my habits. I'm happy
that I've started back up, I kind of had a lingering fear that my work with French was
just a fad and that I wouldn't enjoy it anymore. Definitely not the case!
Also it's amazing to see how much more I have been thinking/ speaking to myself in French
since I did my little work, even if I have been doing some things this past month.
Tout va bien maintenant, je pense que je suis sur le bon chemin.

I've been away from home since Monday because of a concert, but I found the time to do
some French. I've finished L'étranger and I have to say I really liked it. So I read
about 35 or 40 pages of it in the past 3 days. Not half bad for me!
I also translated some words from the book; I've got about 50 pages left to translate (I
of course don't take every word).
Lastly my trip to France is only a week away! Really can't wait. I am going buy as many
books as I can fit into my bag. Any recommendations?

Good study today! Spent most of the day sleeping in and playing Xbox. Was feeling bad
about not doing French, but I did work from 8-10 and my French thinking and speaking has
been flowing like wild since.
I'm looking through some French government sites to figure out how I will apply to France
next year. I figure it's best to start doing this as soon as possible. It's really
exciting thinking about it and also seeing how much easier it is to read these sites than
it was in February. I think I'll have to get a student visa as I live in Ireland but I'm
not a European citizen.
Officially less than a week until Paris!!!

I am in Paris now. Speaking French and hearing it all around me is amazing. So tired from travelling.
