Not too much to talk about from the last few days. I watched Invasion of the Body
Snatchers (1979s version) and Training Day in French, which were both very good after not
having seen them for a while. There were no French subtitles for Invasion, which I really
prefer to use over English ones. So, I didn't use any. I was quite surprised by how much
I understood without them!

I've also been doing reading, both intensive and extensive, vocabulary exercises and some
speaking and listening. Same old stuff really, just trying to get a bit of a schedule
going. I also wrote a new log today: http://lang-8.com/407110/journals/1634607/Le-Voyage-
dans-le-Pass%25C3%25A9

I don't think it's too great, but it's not bad either.

I haven't been updating this every day as there isn't really much need. Things are
progressing pretty well. One good thing is that I've got lots of different things to do
to vary things every once and a while. I'm thinking more and more in French, to the
point where I wish I could remove the English around me and put myself into a complete
immersion environment. Well, outside human contact is more important!

I watched "The Lost Boys", or "Génération Perdue", in French, which is still a great
cheesy 80s movie.

I am almost certainly going to be repeating my exams this year so my focus has to
change a bit. I have really been enjoying this period of "study" so hopefully I can
still find time for it once other, more boring study starts.

Here are the lang-8 journals I've posted recently:

Well, here I am after nearly two months. There seems to be a recurring pattern of
periods of study and doing hardly any.

As I thought might happen, my study for repeating exams has gotten in the way. So too
have other things in my life. But of course I'm not giving up or 'stopping'; I always
saw it as only a matter of time until I came back to doing French.

I haven't done anything that's required much effort since my last post. Mainly thinking
in French for a little while when I'm bored, without really challenging myself when I
don't know exactly what to say. I also watched a few football matches in French.

One thing I did notice is that I'm sometimes uncertain if 'this word' actually means
what I think it means. Also that feeling of seeing a word and thinking 'I should know
this'. Basically that loss of sharpness that comes from something like two months
without being actively engaged in the language.

I don't really have a plan as to what I'll be doing, but I know it'll be something.
It'll be limited by other factors as I already alluded to, but that's life. Perhaps
I'll do a journal entry on lang-8 tonight.

It's awesome that there is always a community like this around.

So two days, two entries on lang-8. I didn't do anything crazy, just a few short
journals.

I'm kind of a bit annoyed that my last three entries haven't been corrected. I don't
know if there aren't any mistakes, or people just don't want to correct them because
they aren't simple beginner stuff. Then again I can kind of get it; I tend to
unconsciously hit the back button on my browser whenever I stumble onto massive
paragraphs of English in my corrections.

I took a walk today and listened to about 1h45mins of 'Le Grand Match de Ligue 1', an
RTL radio program that consists of radio buildup, match commentary and post-match
analysis for the evening ligue 1 fixture on Sundays. It's a cool experience to listen
to a sport commentated over the radio, especially in French, because I've never really
done so. There is something special about it, something slightly different from TV.

Things are still going well. I've done a good few journals in the past few days on
lang-8. I've been doing reading, speaking, some vocabulary, etc. I just built a
computer for gaming so I'm trying to play as many games in French as possible.
Sometimes it's difficult not to switch to English, because it makes it so much easier
to learn the concepts and controls of something that I haven't played before. But of
course, I can do it with French so I make myself. Not that it's not enjoyable!

I'm still kind of discouraged by some of my entries on lang-8 not being corrected, but
that's life. I'll learn from what I can and keep going. As long as they get corrected
the odd time that's OK. Perhaps I'll try writing shorter entries to make it more
accessible for people correcting.

I'd be happy to help out, but I've been very busy lately. Don't be discouraged! I'll try to read and correct a few of them in a week if no one else does it in the meantime.

I find it helps to 1: find French users learning English and give them good corrections
which will often encourage them to reciprocate and 2: if I post and I get nothing and
there's hardly any views then I will sometimes delete and re-post in case my entry has
been pushed down to never be seen again. If could also help to drum up support among
French speakers to get more of them on there and using it but that would take some time.
Maybe it's time to try a language learning blog in French...

Oh, and I find that it's often the ones with just minor mistakes that get the quickest
response. I know when I'm browsing English entries and there are ones that look like a
train wreck I don't even know where to begin to extract some kind of coherent sentence so
I'll often skip over them.

longtemps... Bonne chance!
