Hello! My name is Henrique and I'm from Portugal.

The reason for being in this team is that I'm learning Italian (as well as German and Arabic). I'm now a B2-level student and hope to reach a solid C1 level by the end of 2013.

Being native Portuguese, I can help you with my mother language. Should anyone want, feel free to ask in French or Spanish. I could also help with French, especially if you happen to be lusophone, although there's bound to appear someone more qualified.

That being said, I'd like to wish you all success with your goals. And to thank deadscreen for getting the show on the road, so to speak.

Thanks for posting Luso. Maybe this is a silly question, but what does "lusophone" mean?
It sounds like francophone and anglophone for French and English speakers, but I'm not
sure what "luso" (like your name lol) is. Is it Portuguese?

Yes Lusophone is someone speaking Portuguese.

I would like to be on the Romance Team too and I will try to learn Esperanto and Spanish this year. I speak French natively and English fluently. I am a complete beginner in Esperanto and probably a A1 level in Spanish. I do not really understand what the challenge entails so I would appreciate if anyone could explain that to me. Also, I assume that my esperanto would not count toward the challenge for the Romance team ?

Good to hear from you Tsopivo. As far as I can tell, the object of the TAC is to get as
far as you can in your studies in one year as possible, and the point of being on a
team is to support each other and help each other out with any difficulties we
encounter. We have a lot of people studying French on this team, and you might be able
to answer questions for your team mates since you are a native French speaker. You
individually will have to open and update a TAC language learning log. This is my first
year in the TAC, so I'm not sure if I'm missing anything.

We need a team name! I saw some other people have posted suggestions, and I have
something too. I was looking at Wikipedia, more specifically on the romance languages
page, and found this: "romanice loqui". It means "to speak in Roman" in Latin. I thought
it was quite appropriate, and if anyone else has something, please come forward! Will we
have some sort of vote?

Deadscreen is pretty much correct in her description of TAC. It's quite simple: work hard, help and encourage your teammates and try not to get annihilated as so many do. You are required to keep your own log where you write about what you're doing. You also have to read your teammates' logs as much as possible in order to help and encourage them.

That leads me to another question: Are you satisfied with the size of this team? It is usually best to keep teams small enough that it isn't too difficult to follow each others logs. And when it starts getting up to 20 members, that's hard to do. At last count there were 23 members on the Romance team and people will continue to sign-up well into January which means the team could easily double.

So the options are:
1) Have an incredibly huge team whose logs you will have to keep track of without neglecting your studies too much.
2) Find a way to divide the team into two teams. One person suggested on the sign-up thread that we divide it into one team for French and one for other Romance languages.
3) Stop taking new members. That is what the Russian team did and I am now making a second Russian team. I could do the same for Romance languages without you having to split this team.

I quite like the idea of picking a roman/Latin based name so as not to exclude anyone
in picking a specific French/Spanish/Italian name.

Team Romanice Loqui has a nice ring to it I think :) Anyone else have any other
suggestions? I see the Russian team has chosen Team MIR, choosing something
quintessentially Russian as a name. Is there something similar we could use to cover
all the Romance languages?

Brun, I agree that something should be done, teams would be more effective at 20ish
members I think. I like the idea of keeping a mix of languages, so as to learn about
other Romance languages in the process of the TAC (which will hopefully tempt me to
pick up Spanish very soon ;)). What does everyone else think? I'd be up for having two
Romance teams.
