I vote for Romulan also, as its not too long. And thank you Spanky for stepping up, I
hope this will allow us to get organised so we can start off the year on the right foot!
Thanks

As for the team name, I too vote for Romulan, just because it's easier to remember, and
it's short.

Thank you, Spanky. I believe that we'll be able to see things more clearly by February. In the mean time, it's nice to have someone experienced steering the ship.
I had already decided to stay on this team because I just want to have a bit of fun learning languages. And this forum has been providing it for me since 2008. If this team happens to have more newbies, it's ok by me.
As for new members, my advice would be: try to stick around for a while. You don't have to update your logs very frequently (I know I haven't). Go and take a peek at other people's logs. Contribute, if you think you can. And once you start having fun, it will become automatic.
As I wrote before, I'll be able to help you with Portuguese (and French, if there's no one more qualified available). Feel free to ask, by PM or otherwise.
And have fun. Please. :)

Gotta say that I am not a huge fan of team name Romulan...
can we not find something more real, actually connected to French/Romance languages?
Team Voltaire? Team Camembert? Team Paris? anything but the name of what Trekkers would call an enemy of the Federation...
Team Colbert would be a better choice..." 'cause it's French" as Stephen Colbert used to say...
just my 2 cents...
cheers

Thanks everyone who has responded so far. There is a growing strong concensus in support of "Romulan." I appreciate we will not be able to achieve unanimity by any means as to the name, and despite some of the additional suggested names (TGF, I love the idea of anything Colbert-related!), we will need something that crosses the Romance collection of languages rather than just la belle langue.
How about I keep this open for additonal opinions until Thursday morning (Romulan Time Central, which coincides with Pacific Standard Time, which coincides with where my sorry carcas is currently situated, or in other words, approximately another 14 hours from exactly right now. In the absence of hearing a lot more aversion to Romulan, let's go with that name at that time.

Awesome post Luso. I could not agree more with the sentiment. I mostly hang around this site just because it is so intereting and can be so much fun.

I am thinking of setting up a stand-alone thread for the purpose of compiling language learning resources all in one place. There are figuratively speaking a ton of excellent learning resources recommendations and links spread through a number of threads within a number of different categories of this forum - the trick some of the time is just keeping abreast of the suggestions, some of which are clearly marked and other excellent ones which appear quietly in individual learning threads.
I am thinking of something like a living document which can be supplemented from time to time with everyone's recommendations - I can set up some placeholder posts and then add to them throughout the year as more come to mind, and that way there will be one organized place that in a few discrete posts will collate that information. I mostly work off internet resources currently, because I am cheap and too lazy to go buy something and because there is an amazing amount of internet resources available, so I will probably start with internet based material.
What do you think, and if this approach is helpful, what categories would be useful to set up?
I am thinking of the following so far, but would love to have your thoughts:
A General category - things like wordreference, yabla, lang-8, logoslibrary, etc - stuff that would be of interest across a number of the romance languages being studied by our team mates.
Then specific resource categories for each of the romance languages being pursued (French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish) - a separate post for each category.
If any of you thought it of use, we could also have separate posts within the same Romance Team resource thread for recommended movies, TV shows, radio.
Any thoughts?

I meant to add to the above post that it may be that there is an alternative to the above suggested approach and if any of you have any thoughts in that regard, that would be most welcome.
I recall garyb had suggested in the main TAC organizing thread that the HTLAL wiki might be used for such a purpose. I will admit to not having much experience with that wiki, although I know there are some HTLAL members who poke around with it from time to time. I myself find it hard to navigate, but that probably says more about me than about the wiki. So any thoughts about not just whether we should collect resources but also how best to do so would be most welcome.
