Thanks to you both for the explanation.
Personnally, I usually enjoy reading the logs of people who are learning French more than I do those of people learning a language that I know nothing of. I find it interesting to be in the same group as people whom I can help (French learners) and people who can help me (Spanish speakers and learners). I think that having several languages in the same team is better for help between members than separating between languages. So I guess I would prefer option 3.
As for the team name, "Romanice loqui" is a good idea but it's very descriptive. I have noticed some other teams have names that refer to notable achievement related to their TL (for ex. MIR : great Russian achievement) or simply kick-ass (for ex. : Vikings or last year dragons). Maybe we could find inspiration in Ancient Rome mythology; like a muse or a god of language or learning or something like that.
Another possibility would be to use a motto in latin as it is the base for all romance language but that would probably be too long so it's more a motto than a team name. For example, there are "discere et docere" (to learn and to teach), "veni, vidi, vici", "Vincit qui se vincit" (He/she conquers who conquers him/herself), "aut disce aut discede" (either learn or leave).

I think if it goes much over 20, we might need to split it, at least initiallly.
I'm not sure about splitting it by language, though. There are a lot of us that are studying more than just one. :)
Historically, lots of people who start out strong and enthusiastic at the beginning kind of fizzle out. We started with a huge team last year, and there were only a few of us left that posted regularly.
I think at some point a few months into the year, we will probably look at merging, though.
As to a team name.. I like Pax. It might be borderline copyright infringement from the Russian team, but it's short and sweet and has a nice ring to it. :)

Hi, I'm Pete and I'm studying Italian.
I've dabbled with it over the past few months but have finally been putting serious time into it over the last 1.5 months. I don't have a definite goal but as close to B1 level as I can get is the general idea.
I studied Latin at university so that will help and I'll also look to resurrect my Latin studies in 2013 - I've only looked at Latin about 3 times since graduating.
How about, for the team name, something to do with Hannibal: he did travel through the Romance countries after all and in terms of 'coolness' he's certainly up there with the Vikings.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the challenge and bona fortuna to all.

We could always call ourselves the Romulans.

I'd love to be added to the team. I'm around a B2-C1 in Spanish and want to finish the year with a strong
C1, with my reading being a C2. I'm also going to start French in June, so not sure if I could officially
add that the the TAC 2013 team.
Since moving to the USA a couple of years ago (from Spain) I've dabbled in Spanish learning, but as of 4
weeks ago, I'm now committing to learning throughout 2013.
Being part of a team and keeping a log here will greatly help me and make the whole process a lot more
enjoyable.

That leads me to another question: Are you satisfied with the size of this team? It is
usually best to keep teams small enough that it isn't too difficult to follow each
others logs. And when it starts getting up to 20 members, that's hard to do. At last
count there were 23 members on the Romance team and people will continue to sign-up
well into January which means the team could easily double.
So the options are:
1) Have an incredibly huge team whose logs you will have to keep track of without
neglecting your studies too much.
2) Find a way to divide the team into two teams. One person suggested on the sign-up
thread that we divide it into one team for French and one for other Romance languages.
3) Stop taking new members. That is what the Russian team did and I am now making a
second Russian team. I could do the same for Romance languages without you having to
split this team. |

For me, I don't think option one is an option. I don't really mind what we do with
splitting the team, I just don't want to juggle too many things at once. We should hold
some sort of vote.

I vote for the name Romulans! (Not that I get a vote I suppose... I just like sticking my nose in, and I like Star Trek!)
When you guys decide what to do about the team, someone should send me a PM. It looks like you're leaning toward not taking more members and letting those signing up in the future form a new team. I think that would probably be easiest since there is no clear line to split the team along. There are so many people studying more than one language.
So, team-leader, whoever that may be, send me a PM when you decide. And of course, if after a few months a lot of people have dropped out, the teams can be merged.

My suggestion is to wait at least till the end of the year, maybe more, then we can have
a look on our total count. There are already many members who will study 2 languages, we
have native French and Spanish speakers and I don't think any of the "splitted teams"
would like to lose them on the other side :)
TAC is a long period, along this 12-month challenge one-language-learners may decide to
give a try for another language because all of the target languages of our team are
sister languages and switching is quite possible during this long duration.
