Let's split by language then. Let's have sub-teams instead of splitting completely, though. We will likely end up merged later in the year anyways.

I think there is a lot of merit in the sub-team approach. Perhaps we can keep Romulan (or whatever name we decide) enrolment open to as many as may care to join and we will present a massive juggernaut of keen Romance language learners and will undoubtedly roll over and crush those punks in all the other teams due to our awesomeness. (Sorry, I just watched the movie 300 last night, and I am feeling all war-like and competitive.)
Within the broader Romance team, it will be useful to have sub-teams, so that our individual study approach can be as focussed as possible. For those with a healthy sense of competition, we could even have some healthy sibling rivalry among the various daughters of Romanice for motivation purposes to see which sub-team outperforms the others in terms of progress, colouring within the lines, that sort of thing.
So, a tentative vote in favour of open team enrolment, establishment of subteams within the broader team environment, and my interest would be in French only at this time. I do not have a strong voice here as the issue is partially moot for me in any event: I wind up reading practically everyone’s logs on this forum just out of interest (and to avoid my own studying), and I fully expect I will be offering apologies and dropping out of TAC by April at the latest….
In terms of the name, assuming we stay together in some fashion, I don't have a strong opinion but am somewhat in favour of the name Romulan for the team name, and am prepared to risk running the wrath of disappointed trekkies who may feel tricked. I like the concept of some of the other suggested names, but my own sense is that a team name is best one word rather than a phrase, just for ease of use.
My only alternative suggestion is SPARTA!!! - again, my apologies, I stayed up too late watching 300 and it seems to have imprinted somewhat on my brain. The name does not fit at all and should not be adopted, but it sounds really really cool if we were all to yell it out at once, preferrably while raising spears or something. I will try to limit my late-night viewing in the future....

Um, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't Sparta in Greece?

In case no one reads the main sign-up thread anymore, here is what I wrote there:

The Romance team is having a hard time trying to decide how or if they should control their size. However, I know that some people have left or chosen not to join because of the team being too large for their tastes. Therefore I have made a decision myself. If the Romance team wishes, they may grow as large as they want. However, for those who are interested in a smaller team, I am considering the following options:
1) We could create a new Romance team like we did with the Russian team. Except that in this case people could choose to join either team (until the first Romance team decides to stop taking new members).
2) We could allow those who wish to have a single language team to create a new team or teams. For example, a French team or a Spanish team.
3) All of the above, assuming we get enough people to join the teams.
Those who are interested, let me know and we can decide how we wish to proceed.

I think it would be a shame to split up a team willy-nilly when the members have gotten to know each other and begun to make plans. So I thought this idea would be the best. That leaves us with a Romance team or perhaps two which would be ideal for those who are studying more than one language or who are interested in other Romance languages, and we could if you wish, have separate one-language teams as well. Romance languages are very popular so I think whatever we do, we won't have any trouble creating 2-4 good-sized teams. Remember that this is only the 12th of December which means a lot more people will probably sign-up by the end of the year, and sign-ups aren't officially closed until the end of January.

I will admit that for a second there, I considered taking Greek just so I could be part of a Sparta team :)
I like the idea of sub-teams though it would be nice if people read the logs of languages they speak, along the ones of the languages they learn so for instance, I,d be part of both sub-team French and Spanish.
We could still close off inscriptions for this team as we are a very large group already.

If I may make a suggestion, we can have Romance Team 1 include ONLY the people who are ALREADY listed on the first post of this thread. If your name is not there, then you split off and start a Romance Team 2 thread. This may be the simplest and fastest way of choosing who is on which team and keeping team 1 under 20 members. I believe there are only 18 people currently listed on the first post but I could be wrong... There seems to be enough enthusiasm for all Romance languages that splitting by individual language may just make things a bit too complicated. If individual members feel that they only want to read logs by people studying the same languages, then they may feel free to do so. Honestly, it sounds like even that level of participation is good to shoot for and we have plenty of multi-language-crossover to work with.
Team 2 could even be called "Team Remus" so it's not all about the Star Trek and sort of about Romulus and Remus. But there have been some other good suggestions. I think I will create a poll the week before the New Year so that we can all vote in an organized fashion.

So are we doing sub-teams or two separate teams? If there is no definite answer, maybe we
could hold some sort of vote, just because I'm not entirely sure on the situation.

If we were to go this route, I believe there are three current team members not reflected in your list: songlines, GeoffW and Gragazzo, all of who are studying multiple Romance languages, at least two of whom were earliest nominees.
