French:
Watched episode 5 of 30 Vies. Things are starting to get heated, people getting lied to, and hearts getting broken. It's surreal to think how far I've come. I can actually follow a tv show now. I started L/Ring Candide by Voltaire, Discours de la Methode by Descartes, and Stupeur et tremblants by Amelie Nothomb. These books are fairly short. I'd like to L/R Les Miserables but that will take awhile. One day! Italian: I began to read Il nome della rosa by Umberto Eco. It's sort of a Giallo book about monks traveling to a monastery for a meeting, but then they discover there was a suicide. Then more monks start dying. So the main character has to gather clues about what's going on. I also began watching a season of Family Guy. It's not that bad so far to understand, but there are a few difficulties. Spanish: I began reading Del amor y otros demonios by Gabriel Marquez. This guy is doing something right because even reading the preface I got sucked in. It really is a great feeling and very motivational. I used to be frustrated that I couldn't get the gist of a sentence, now I'm frustrated that I can't understand the little intricacies. I wonder what I'll be frustrated about in a year! :P
Just keep working everyday. It's so worth it. I've read your log and I can tell you'll be able to in no time. ;) You have the motivation and dedication so it's just a matter of time. Moi aussi. Actually I already started to watch some episodes of the animated version of Le Petit Nicolas, but I only understand about half of what they say. That show looks awesome. How many episodes did you get through already? Do they come with subs?
French: Watched another episode of 30 Vies. I feel my natural listening starting to develop more. There are still phrases/words/slang I'm not getting at all, and I'm still getting used to the accent, but everything I do know I can understand with relative ease. Italian: I'm doing L/R with Pinocchio. There are some very outdated words/phrases, but that's to be expected when it was written over 100 years ago. I finished the 3rd chapter yesterday. So far the chapters are really short, but I can see they get a lot longer. I'm at a stage where I know the word but my brain still can't link to the meaning in time. I think I mentioned that before. Spanish: Yesterday I watched Maria Full of Grace with subs. It was kind of boring, but not as boring as La Mujer Sin Cabeza. I've been watching more Univision on TV but they speak unbelievably fast. French:
30 Vies, ugh. Still continues to be love/hate. There is still the problem of understanding less than I would like, especially because its of a low audio quality. I decided to take a little break from Quebecois after watching episode 8. I started up some Kaboul Kitchen, and what do you know, I caught about 90% of it. Even some of the thicker/foreign accents, although not all of them. This show is hilarious. I think listening to Quebec French is making my listening comprehension of France French better. Whatever works! I'm going to take a break with 30 Vies for a bit. The pronunciation/accent/joual is starting to get a little overwhelming as they go deeper into the plot. I plan to go back to dubs for Quebecois for a bit. Italian: I watched Crazy, Stupid Love in Italian w/ Italian subs. I haven't done much with L/R lately. I've never been a big reading person. It takes me a month to get through a short book. I much prefer TV/movies. I'd like to try and find other shows in Italian. I have four seasons Family Guy so far. Spanish: Nothing lately. I haven't been feeling it too much. Sometimes I'll watch a telenovela for a bit, but eh. I have a bunch of movies to go through. After trying to listen to radio from Madrid, I could barely understand a thing. The strong "j" and "c/z" sounds made it sort of difficult. I'm not too used to hearing it. The only problem I have against watching univision/telemundo is that I really want to develop a Spanish accent. Beggars can't be choosers! 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Damn! I knew I was forgetting something earlier last week. I wanted to do an Andrea Bocelli song but it totally slipped my mind. I'm going to have to go on that. :D
French: As I said, took a break from the native Quebecois shows. I watched an episode of Family Guy in Quebecois. It's either the accent or pronunciation I'm having trouble deciphering. For example, "cochon" in Quebecois is more like "cochan". There were a few sentences/words I just couldn't make out. I'd say I had about a 95& comprehension though. Including some rewinds to understand a word at times. :P My grammar is extremely messy. Luckily I've been diving into my grammar book more. Italian: Started watching some Family Guy. It's going good so far. I'm having trouble recognizing more of the colloquial phrases and nouns though. Expressing myself as of this moment is proving to be a problem. I just don't have the vocabulary or conjugation knowledge to do it efficiently. I have a grammar book. But being 825 pages, I have no idea where to even begin. (I guess from the beginning, duh) Spanish: Nothing lately. All of my attention has been on French & Italian these past few days.
