Mandarin
I'm still managing to do some Mandarin practice every day, though some days more than others (obviously).
I've signed up for the February 6WC with Mandarin, so hopefully that will help to keep me motivated. I'm determined not to let things slip this year like they did with German last year.
I've been inspired by my teammates introductions in our team thread, and I'm considering recording an audio of myself speaking Mandarin at the beginning of the 6WC and another one at the end of it. It would be interesting to see how much difference 6 weeks of intensive study can make.

Glad to hear you are still getting some studying done. Anything is better than nothing, even if it is just a quick 5
card blast on Anki! Looking forward to hearing your recorded audio!

Ok, time for a quick update.
I had to withdraw from the 6WC because there are just too many demands on my time in that horrible thing called 'real life' at the moment. Maybe things will have calmed down in time for the next one. :(
Fortunately I'm still able to continue with the TAC, so it's not all bad news.
I'm really starting to appreciate the value of all those litte 5-10 minute sessions of language practice during the day (even if it's just going through a few flashcards).
I have managed to record a short audio, which I will be uploading as soon as I can find the USB lead for my camera (it's not great, but it's better than nothing I guess).

I’m still very busy with non-language related ‘stuff’ at the moment, but I’m managing to find some time for Chinese study/practice every day.
My beginner’s Mandarin course is almost finished. I’ve really enjoyed it and I’m going to miss it when it’s over. It’s only once a week, but it’s been great to have the regular practise and feedback.
My TAC team had a music challenge this month, so I’ve been listening to and learning some Chinese songs. I don’t usually listen to music a great deal but it’s been an interesting exercise and I’ve discovered some music that I really like.
I still haven’t had the courage to try italki. Oh well…maybe one day. :(
Time Management
I’ve never been very good at managing my time and it’s really starting to become problematic. I’ve taken on a lot lately (probably more than I should) and the stress is starting to show.
I’m not a very organised person and I also have a tendency to procrastinate which really doesn’t help matters, not to mention all the time that I waste online. I’m sure that, if I scheduled my time better, I could actually have more time to devote to the things that I want to do (like Mandarin) as well as the things that I have to do.

Chinese
My Chinese beginners’ course is over. :’(
*cries*
I had a lot of fun and I’m really disappointed that there isn’t a follow on course running. It’s a shame because there were a few other people on the course who were also interested in continuing. I feel that I have learned a lot from it and not just in terms of language. My confidence in speaking (while still relatively low) has increased a great deal.
Time Management
I think that I have sorted this one now. I’ve managed to arrange a schedule for myself that (if I can stick to it) will give me a lot more free time. I’m determined that the time I’ve been wasting browsing online and getting nothing done is going to be put to better use from now on.
*fingers crossed* I can make this work.

Oh dear…someone save me from ‘language wanderlust’!
I’ve suffered from minor cases of this affliction before, one of which resulted in a brief flirtation with Spanish. And, if it weren’t for wanderlust, I’d probably never have branched out from German and found my lovely Mandarin Chinese, but I think I’m experiencing my first real bout of it now. :(
I love learning German and Chinese, but it’s getting increasingly difficult to focus on them with the other languages 'calling' to me. I visited the library to look for some books for college (completely unrelated to languages) and ended up taking home a mixture of courses for languages that I have never studied before. These materials are presently sat on a table taunting me. O.O
Part of me thinks that I should just give in to it. After sitting down and being brutally honest about my time I realised that I was wasting literally hours everyday just aimlessly browsing online, which I am now keeping an eye on, so I have much more free time. As long as I make sure I’m still working on German and Chinese maybe it wont be too bad to allow myself to ‘indulge’ and start looking at some others languages for a little while?
How do you guys deal with wanderlust?

Which languages are you wanderlusting after? :) I managed my wanderlust last year by only allowing myself to branch out if I reached a certain level in Korean. That pretty much kept me on task. When I did give in, it was to watch videos teaching Chinese in Korean... This year I started with 3 languages, because I just couldn't decide and find that 3 is far too much for me and that I hardly find the time to really study Korean. At some point it started to feel more like an obligation than enjoyment, so I've decided to just stick with Korean for the moment and take it easy. In the end wanderlust taught me that Korean is still my no. 1 priority and it will be a big challenge for another language to take that place. So maybe it could work to stop fighting the urge and just give in to it until it becomes too much work or your initial curiosity is satisfied.

I usually give in but make sure that the language I really want to focus on (currently Thai) still comes first. I think, usually, I have two sets of goals, one normal one which is largely based upon what I've been achieving recently in terms of time spend overall or time spend on specific activities, and a second 'minimal' set which kicks in when I'm on holiday, sick, otherwise busy, traveling etc. In case I'm overcome by wanderlust, I make sure to reach at least this second set of goals. Often, wanderlust fades away quickly... nowadays, I seem to prefer engaging with languages I am somewhat proficient in to dabbling with completely new ones because I focus less on language study itself but more on the associated culture, and that's more fun when I already understand something.
