Napoleon, I am sorry I have been neglecting this log! I haven't been a very good study partner. I just updated my log with some of the things I have recently
learned from "Mastering Arabic." I am sorry that because I am using a different book, it makes it hard for us to discuss what we are learning and to help
motivate each other! I hope you can understand that I have a personal reason for not using the Madinah program.

I'm just glad we're studying the language together. Two years ago, there was an explosion of interest in Arabic around the world. And consequently in the forum. But that has long since died down.

So the best I can do to try to be a better study partner is to tell you what I am learning from my book.

Thanks. I really appreciate it.

Hope you are doing well in your studies. How are you splitting up your time between French and Arabic? I am spending much more time on Spanish than Arabic, but
I hope once I get through the two programs I am using with Spanish that I can up my time for Arabic and using reading and listening only for Spanish. |

Although I'm spending a lot more time on French than I am on Arabic, I'm not really studying. I'm watching lots of TV. LOL :)

Oh wow, Napoleon, I love your charts and graphs! They make me smile every time I see them!
So with that chart, it looks like the interest in all languages has declined?
I am going to work as much as I can this week on my vocabulary to try to get it to stick. so I may put off starting Chapter 11 and go back and do some
writing exercises again, make sure I am retaining things. So I'll have to wait on broken plurals and the three letter roots.
What have you been learning lately?

Indeed. Interest in all languages has been on the decline. Except English, of course. :)

I am halfway through DVD 5(Lesson 10, Madinah Book 1).
I have my university exams in a month. So, I might have to cut down on languages for some time.

I am going to post the first page of the first lesson in Madinah Book 1. And I'm also going to post the first page of lesson 10.
The first lesson teaches you to how to point to something and say:
This is a book.
This is a pen.
If you want to say car (which is feminine in Arabic), you'll have to wait till lesson 6.
In the meanwhile, from lesson 5, almost every chapter is a dialogue. A conversation between students and their teacher.
Take lesson 10 as an example. (This is what I'm studying now.)
It teaches you, among other things, to ask people whether they have any siblings.
It also teaches you how to reply: you have one brother. And one sister. If you have more. Or, if you have no siblings at all, you're out of luck.

It's neat seeing the pages of your book. I have been busy today writing sentences. I am trying to get some of these possessive constructions to stick in my
brain, and I thought writing sentences would help me with learning vocabulary. I don't really like flashcards, so I have to come up with another way of
learning vocabulary. Writing works pretty well for me.
I know I am getting ahead of myself, but I found this website with graded Arabic readers on it. arabic-stories-for-kids-for.html">Here
I am still working on some revision and chapter 11.

Writing works well for me too.
I have been neglecting Arabic because I was too busy with the Super Challenge.
But it's great to hear of the progress you're making.
We'll be reading Arabic newspapers in no time, eh? :)

I'm interested in learning Arabic. I have a copy of Mastering Arabic and the Pimsleur
Eastern Arabic CD's. Is it too late to join this group?
I'm not sure how all of this works. Do people do the same lessons each week, or just
post a log of what you have done? I hope to start the Mastering Arabic book this week.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Tom
