A person of average intelligence should be able to gain basic fluency in 10 langages in 10 years if he/she is willing to work consistently at it. We all only use a small portion of our brains making IQ numbers somewhat meaningless. So no excuses why it can not be done.

Don't you think that it depends on the ten languages chosen?

Yes you are right Mr. Patuco! A number of the Asian languages will take longer than that one year and perhaps some of the slavic languages too. How about an average of 2 years per language, longer for some shorter for others. Francois learned Spanish in 6 months after already knowing French and Italian and said that Portuguese should be with in reach in about 3 months. I was only speaking of basic fluency and not native like fluency.

1- English.
2- Portuguese, love the sound and the countries where it's spoken.
3- French.
4- German. These two would open me the gates of central/western Europe, the region that interests me most in the world.
5- Mandarin. Someday...
6- Hind-Urdu: lots of speakers, not too hard but exotic enough.
7- Romanian: The largest inmigrant community in my country right now, being a romance language it shouldn't be too difficult.
8- Arabic: I couldn't decide between the dialect(s) spoken in western Maghreb or trying to learn the one in some middle eastern country. The former, I guess, being closer and having a large Moroccan and Algerian community in the country.
9- Farsi.
10- I feel ridiculous already, listing a tenth language I won't manage to learn would only make things worse.

Not really in order...

1) Portuguese
2) French
3) Italian
4) Catalan
5) Japanese
6) Swedish
7) Irish (I'm Irish and would love to be able to speak my "native" language but not at the expense of other languages that would be more use to me in everyday life
8) Mandarin
9) German
10) Not sure. Maybe Polish because there are a lot of Polish people in London, where I live. Maybe Romanian, so I'd have learnt all the Romance languages.
