Would recommend to an English speaking British person (since that's what I am):
1) German (important in europe)
2) French (a lot of people go to France on holiday)
3) Spanish (important in the Americas)
4) Polish (a minority language)
5) Welsh (it's pretty, why not?)
6) Arabic (widely spoken)
7) Mandarin (supposedly important...)
8) Russian (why ever not)
9) Esperanto (I'm running out of ideas)
10) Saami (I needed a 10th language)

Would like to speak:

1) English (native)
2) Dutch (can kind of speak it)
3) Portuguese
4) Spanish
5) German
6) Welsh
7) French
8) Bosnian
9) Swedish
10) Latin

I don't know. It depends on the persons intentions. What are they interested in?
Personally, I think I want to learn four Asian languages and five or so European
languages but I can never settle on which ones...

My list is something like this:

1. Mandarin
2. Cantonese
3. Japanese
4. Korean
5. French
6. German
7. Russian
8. Polish
9. Norwegian, Swedish, Danish
10. Dutch

Out of linguistic curiosity I want to learn either Finnish or Hungarian. Other than
that, I'd be happy with this list. But I plan to get advanced or near native in six to
ten languages over the next twenty years or so and then when I'm around fifty, I'll
dabble in a few languages out of linguistic curiosity.

The only way I'd realistically speak 10 languages was if I based my language choice on languages I already knew.

I'm learning German at the moment so 1) Dutch 2) Swedish 3) Norwegian and perhaps 4) Icelandic, in that order.

My French is also coming on nicely so 1) Spanish 2) Italian 3) Romanian would be a logical progression. I don't care much for Portuguese.

Russian is a language that lingers in my thoughts and I have amassed a tidy collection of resources.

German
Dutch
Swedish
Norwegian
Icelandic
French
Spanish
Italian
Romanian
Russian
