My plans for 2008:
Danish: I'd like to continue with my studies and aim for a high intermediate level, just work on everything I'm interested in, visit Denmark and practice my new Danish skills there.
Spanish: I'd like to watch the series "Hablamos español" on TV til the end and resume afterwards my Spanish studies.
English: I'd like to "better" it, regarding vocabluary, writing and pronounciation.
In particular I want to furnish/decorate my new study room, rearrange all the language materials on the shelves and create an ideal language study environment for me.

French: Advanced fluency. I'm going to be listening to audio books, radio, and watch French in Action many times over for this. Also watch some movies and read some books.
Mandarin: Be able to hold good conversations. I just started using Assimil for this, so I'm hoping to be done with that by summer.
Other languages: I'd like to start one more by the end of the year, even if I don't get into it that much.

My main goal for 2008 is to actually stick with my goals and maintain some consistency in my study plan. I will be continuing on my unfinished 2007 goals of finishing the Spanish FSI program (I am currently stuck on lesson 24), making it through the Pimsleur German series, and doing some passive listening to Chinesepod and some Russian audio. I also have goals of utilizing more technology in my language study--maybe finding an app to do some flashcards on my new Iphone!
Good luck to everyone on their goals and Happy New Year!!!

For 2008, I'll be putting all my effort into reaching advanced fluency in Spanish. My goals are to finish Platiquemos and then continue to improve my conversation skills (which shouldn't be too difficult in New York). I'd also like to spend part of the summer in Mexico, which I'm still in the process of setting up.
And if there's any time left in the rest of the year, I'd love to start another language. But for me, it's one at a time!

Second I find that I am only able to concentrate on one language at a time. I can maintain or refresh others by reading books or listening to audio books, but to tackle the long and steep slope of learning from scratch to fluency I need to focus on one. |

I'll probably have to take that into consideration when I begin Chinese in 2009. For related languages I've found so far that I can handle two or three at a time, because there's enough transparency, and it doesn't feel as though I'm starting from absolute scratch. Regarding an entirely unrelated language, as in your case with Russian, I agree one would probably need to devote most of their attention to it. I think one at a time would just about blow my patience though!

Italian: Improve fluency to beyond basic. I.E converse with native speakers in complicated topics, read novels, listen to the radio and watch film/tv with further ease. Mainly, increase vocabulary and make my Italian sound more Italian. Also, find out more about CILS and the differing levels.
Japanese: Learn insane amounts of kanji, make my Japanese more conversational rather than the extremely formal state it is now and increase vocabulary. Also, find out more about JLPT and the differing levels.
French or German: Decide on one of these languages and start.
Busy year! I'll be doing a Law and Arts degree full time plus part time work...good thing the Italian and Japanese will be apart of my Arts degree!

My main goal is to finish Remembering the Kanji.I will be learning ten a day, sometimes more. I was doing 25 a day, but then I got burnt out and quit for a week. I was also reviewing my Kanji wrong (Kanji to English) so I decided to start over from the beginning.
At ten Kaniji a day, It will take me around six and a half months. This seems like a lot of time at first, but then I remembered Japanese kids spend around 12 years learning the Kanji.
After finishing the Kanji, I plan on moving on to Kana using the book made by Heisig. Once I am done with Kanji/Kana I plan on spending the rest of the year on using the method at AJATT.

By the end of 08 I'd like to be able to pass JLPT 2 and increase my speaking skills. This may seem like a small goal, but I've heard that JLPT lvl 1 is extremely hard, so I'm not going to set anything too high. Gl everyone
