Not much reading today either, way too many customers at work.
I read Isaac Babel's very short Смерть Долгушова, a mere 4 pages. Not that very interesting one, although I guess you are supposed to think it is.
While I was waiting at the post office (with number 90 when it was at 30...) I read almost all of Святочная история by Zoshchenko, also super short, 3 pages. I didn't underline anything though, so I will have to reread it.
And that's the whole of that book! Портрет next, or what was it I said?
Loved the book by the way, and I recommend it to anyone studying Russian. http://www.amazon.com/Russian-Stories-Dual-Language-Gleb-Str uve/dp/0486262448/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=122937 7517&sr=8-1

I've also been reading some extra articles. One on abused women yesterday and today one on dairy products (which is something I find very interesting so it's not as weird as it seems, or perhaps it is...). Lots of new words to put in Anki!

I haven't started Портрет yet, cause I couldn't find it. I will admit that I searched for it for like 20 seconds, but I'm giving Hungarian a bit more attention until I go to Sweden.
I *have* read a very nice poem, Не забыть by Юлия Колесник, in Снежность. I'm thinking I will do something more with it. And read more of her poems in the book.
Also read two articles for Article Thursday. One about Obama and the other about kangaroos! Words will go to the Anki God.

I found Портрет! And... argh... it's harder than I thought. At least in the beginning, where there's lots of talk of paintings and frames and other depressing things with completely unfamiliar vocab. It doesn't help that lots of the words I try to look up aren't in the rambler.ru dictionary. Everything can be found over at multitran.ru though. It is a dual language book, but not like the Russian Stories one; the translation is not that well matched to the original, and sometimes I have to look up words to be sure which one is which.
I've read 13 pages so far. Painstakingly.

15 or so pages yesterday. I feel that I am relying way too much on the translation. One unknown word? Straight to the other side! I made a real effort to STOP and managed to read a couple of pages without looking at it, but then all of a sudden something appears that I really can't figure out from context and I give up. The French translation still annoys me. Sure, it's FRENCH, but it doesn't help me as a student :P Sometimes I know that it is hard to translate exactly, but then again... sometimes it just seems like it could have been more accurate and matching.
And what about the book in itself? It makes me think about The Picture of Dorian Gray of course, but it's a good enough story. However, as I was unable to sleep last night, I thought about how the book I'm reading in Swedish would have been excellent to read in Russian. This is how it goes:
Man sees mysterical, PROUD woman.
"MARRY ME! I MUST HAVE YOU!"
"I CANNOT! I am but a servant..."
"I DON'T CARE!"
"But I won't know what fork to use!!"
Etc. Quite predictable.
Well well, I guess Russian classics will have to do for now :P

hmm, interesting. People want to marry me, I am but a servant (yours), but still I haven't used a fork. Would you explain more?

No, I'm sorry Leopejo, the rest is for you to find out on your own.

Did my 10 or so pages yesterday. I don't like the main character, he is stupid :P
Completely forgot to mention that I watched the movie Возвращение. Not the most uplifting of films, but very beautiful. They didn't talk that very much, and I learned perhaps two new words, but it's nice to watch a movie in Russian every now and then as well.

Another 11-12 pages down, and without that must use of the translation. Vocabulary wise this book feels less useful than the preceeding ones.

Nooot a whole lot of reading lately. These last two days I've read 10 pages altogether, and I'm now at page 134 out of 226. The book doesn't really inspire me very much, so reading it is mostly a chore. -_-
However, I got a very nice Christmas present from a fellow language enthusiast! "Руслан и Людмила" in an edition intended for Russian 5th graders :) I will get to it after Wuthering Heights!
