Does anyone know what the status of the FSI Mandarin is? I don't know about other people but i'd definately be willing pay some money towards the cost of digitising the course!

Don't hold your breath. This thread seems to have stagnated.

There's another thread (link) which mentions that FSI are going to digitize their courses so there might not be a need for us to do so, hence the "stagnation".

It's about time.... I hope they do all of their courses and don't try to copyright them. ;)

RE: Standard Chinese and other FSI courses
I believe many of us have separate parts of the Standard Chinese course, but I'm not sure who has converted what and who is sharing. It wouldn't be reasonable to expect people who have the course to digitize it if they don't have the equipment or time to do it. I would have bought the other modules, but I feel that my Mandarin has progressed beyond the scope of this course. Aside from module 9, I would probably only benefit from modules 7 and 8. However, I'd rather spend my money on another FSI course from the NTIS which I'm sure no one else has. Right now, Portuguese, Arabic, and Korean look like possible future purchases for me. I have many other FSI courses that I can't share, such as Japanese 1 and 2, Cantonese 1 and 2, German 1 and 2, Korean 1, and French 1 and 2. I won't buy any of these courses from the NTIS. I already have Platiquemos, so I won't buy Spanish. That leaves very few courses for me to buy and convert.
To anyone with Standard Chinese modules converted:
If you have a module from the NTIS converted that you'd like to share, I can put it on my FTP along with module 9. Send me a PM.

FSI Standard Chinese Modules 1, 2, and 9
I'm pleased to announce that I've added Modules 1 and 2 of Standard Chinese to my FTP. This is thanks to the efforts of mabelee/Cindy, who bought them from the NTIS and converted them to mp3 format. At this point, it's just the audio, not the books, but they are still useful for anyone learning Mandarin at a basic level. If anyone wants access to my FTP to download these modules, message me and I'll send you the current address. I still have module 9 up, but I've adjusted the volume and filtered out some of the hiss sound. I've also compressed it to 64kbps/mono, which makes no noticeable difference to the sound quality. Enjoy the course, and be sure to thank Cindy for her efforts.

FSI Standard Chinese Textbooks
From the NTIS Catalog, I see that the textbooks can be bought independant of the audio. The textbooks for Modules 1 & 2 are identical and cost $100 new. I will be searching for a used copy. Can someone who has the course describe what textbooks accompany this program, so that I know what to look for and so that I can be certain that I will buy the complete set of course books for Modules 1 & 2? Does it include any workbooks? Are these books an important part of the course?
I will also be on the lookout for copies on microfilm, through library loan, as this would be the easiest and most accurate way to digitize the text.

FTP Issues Resolved
I apologize to everyone who went onto my FTP and experienced problems. I've installed new FTP server software which is very stable and won't crash like the other program did.
SC Textbooks
@Duke
Don't bother buying the books, as many of us have them already and another forum member is sending me digitized versions as we speak. Of course, if you want a hard copy, go ahead.
