I've created parallel texts for song lyrics quite regularly, but I don't really have the patience to build them for novels. I have started reading bilingual books in print form, though.

I am doing a short story now. It's in Hindi, by Tagore, audio available at archive.org. I believe Hindi story is out of copyright by now, the translation is all over internet, so I can share the result. I roughly align paragraphs, and that's about it. Not quality work, but it needs to be done manually, so I don't want to waste too much time on making a pretty text.
Google translate, though a lovely tool i use much, does not produce readable translation, unfortunately. I mean, once you want to use it for non-European non-"big" languages. Otherwise of course a nice word-to-word translation is the best for language learning. I find it nice for vocab acquisition before I'm good to go translation-free. Though I see a lot of parallel texts done for books by Russian authors, but not, say, Russian-English, but like English-French. Aren't the translations a bit like far apart?
