I'm from the Midwest never use /ʍ/ in my speech. A friend from Florida, on the other hand, always makes a distinction and finds it downright odd that I don't. He's normally very consistent, but once I heard him begin the word "werewolf" with /ʍ/, and I pointed it out. Of course, that's a fairly low frequency item, but he quipped, "Well, it's like 'Where wolf? There wolf!'"

The thing with low frequency items is that you often pick them up from the TV, and with a more "standard" accent. There were words I learnt from English voices on TV, and as there was nothing in the accent to tell me whether it was a "wh" word or a "w" word, I had to decide for myself which to use, and this was an unconscious process -- my brain picked it for me. And I used to say "wherewolf", until my older siblings (who could read) told me it was /w/.

Lana del Rey pronounces WH as HW in one of her songs (Diet Mountain Dew) in the word: WHY (''I don't know [hwai] but I like it'') ;)
She's a 25 year old singer from Lake Placid, NY.

hit me and tell me you're mine i don't know why but i like it scary, my god, you're divine gimme them gimme them dope and diamonds

(Un)fortunately this was deleted on the album version because it was a bit too disturbing for general public. ;)
