Every time I buy a new electronical gadget I get a booklet in at least seventeen languages. Sometimes I study them, sometimes I'm too busy. Just as a curiosity: the chocolate milk I have in front of me right now is multilingual in Danish, Norwegian bokmål, Swedish and Finnish - and it has been produced in Germany, but there is no German explanations on it. "Low fat chocolate milk" in Finnnish is "maitokaakaojuoma".

There are also technical wordlists or even dictionaries on the internet, but you can't be sure that they can keep up with the technical development. I have personally a related problem in the MS Office suite, where my menus are in Danish and I have to use Danish commands when I write macros (which is part of my job) - but most of my sources and my best sources on the internet refer to menus and commands by their English names.

By the way, I could have followed the series "Borgen" on TV. However reality in Danish politics is just as absurd as any TV series, and I get more than enough of it by watching the news.

Hi Fasulye,

So I see you're going to become an expert on webcams. Will it be shift work?

Have you seen The Killing (Danish title Forbrydelsen, meaning "The Crime"). It was shown on the BBC recently and
was a huge hit. There was also some controversy about the translation of the subtitles. The viewers found some of
the subtitling offensive which resulted in the toning down of the swear words, which in turn led to complaints that
the translation wasn't accurate. Anyway I enjoyed hearing Danish spoken although I understood very little. Highly
recommended.

Hi Tournesol,

That's of course exaggerated, I only want to pick up some relevant vocabulary in Italian and French technical manuals.

The BBC programs aren't available on the cable in Germany, I only have got BBC World.

So I have no chance to watch "Forbrydelsen", it would only make sense to me to watch it in Danish with subtitles to learn something from it.

Another congratulation on getting the job! Hopefully they'll allow you to have the time off to take part in your Dutch class, especially as it would be good for your job... Some companies even pay for classes... That would be wonderful for you too :o)

Good luck in your new job! I'm sure you'll do brilliantly :o)

Thanks, WentworthsGal!

I have to use Dutch for my job, but I am a learner of Danish. So on those days of my Danish course I will have to work one hour earlier.
