Two people could be doing exactly the same things outwardly in an exactly same immersion environment.
Psychologically, however, one could be immersed and another not be.
Thus there are two aspects to immersion learning.
1. deliberately create or put yourself within an immersive environment
2. deliberately adapt your mind to get it soaked into that environment.
....
For the second step, a deliberate turning on of the switch within your mind to enter into the dimension and milieu of immersion might be necessary....
....
addendum: If you are enjoying your activities within the immersive environment, then your mind is also immersed in your target language and culture and you are most likely doing it right.
It is maximizing this experience consciously and deliberately which is what is at the core of effective immersion method.

---Addendum: Detachment from the Goals and Attachment to the Process---
....
it will not be so easily transmitted by just a few short writings.
....
If you are learning your very first or second foreign language, it will be more difficult for you to incorporate these somehow mysterious sounding words.
But as you have more experiences of actually having learned a couple languages finally, you will have more confidence and experiential reference point to become more relaxed when you are learning a new language, even as you have more assurance that you will actually learn it sooner or later too just like you have learned other languages.
With this confidence and ability to better pace your learning process patiently, you will be able to better incorporate this sense of detachment from your impatient zeal for goals and enjoy the process of learning itself more.
....
'Study' detaches itself from the process when it seeks just the end results too quickly.
'Acquisition' attaches itself within the immersion process and loses itself within it.
....
This principle of immersion in the process will play its role in other issues, such as the fluency level and maintenance of languages learned, methodologies of using nannies and tutors.

The concept of detachment from the results and attachment to the process needs more detailed and longer explication. I have done so in the above thread.
