I was reading several articles about the importance of major languages in the future.
French will be the most spoken language in 2050 according to a recent study by French investment bank Natixis. http://www.france24.com/en/20140326-will-french-be-world-mos t-spoken-language-2050/ At the same time, Spanish will be the most spoken language in the world by 2045 according to Humberto López Morales, secretary of the Association of Spanish Language Academies. There is not a single language that would dominate in every part of the world. We are still going to have regional
languages such as Spanish for much of Central & South America with Portuguese in Brazil. Chinese would be dominant in E. Asia including places like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand & Singapore where the people are learning Chinese as a second language. In India, English is still very much a business language along with Hindi. In Africa, you have a split between the east & south that uses mainly English as the second language and the west that uses mainly French. In the Middle-East and parts of N. Africa, Arabic would still be common. People are proud of their national heritage and even with a small population would fight to the last nail to preserve their identity. This is the case in Hong Kong where the Chinese majority speak Cantonese and would fight to prevent Mandarin spoken on the Mainland from taking over. Adopting a second language such as English in Scandinavian countries is always preferred because of the number of places already using English. We would see several languages dominate such as Chinese, English, Spanish, Portuguese & French. Some languages such as Hindi & Russian although have a large # speakers tend to be restricted to specific geographic locations. TO be honest not much will change language wise in only 35 years. You'd need a lot of time for things to shift dramatically.
