Was originally planning for A2 level by September but that's not
going to challenge me
enough so I'm stepping things up a level...
Goal
To reach B1 standard in all areas of my German in order that I
can enroll on the level
4 evening class at my local university on September. 26 Weeks
until deadline.
Definition
Passing the B1 DW.DE online placement test- roughly equivalent
to Scottish Higher
Grade/ English AS level.
Today I scored 80% on the A1 test- Excellent! You have not only
achieved the CEFR
A1 competence level. You are already well on the way to the next
level A2.
Somehow, I got 63% on the A2 level test although I felt I was
guessing most of it...
Very good! You have reached the CEFR A2 competence level.
Plan of Action
To complete at least 5 lessons of Assimil weekly (100 lessons)
To complete the Hugo Complete German pack (Approx. 19 weeks
of lessons)
To watch one German language film per week
To read completely: Gregs Tagebuch (diary of a wimpy kid) and
Hektor Hamster
To write at least one email in German per week to penpal
To listen to, read, write and shadow German as often as I can in
my spare time
I plan to update my log approx. weekly with any difficulties or
moments of clarity plus
details of total hours on each activity and films watched.
Let the games commence!

(Already posted in now deleted separate thread)
Week 2 finished- w/e 23 February 2014
13.5 hours of study; 2 hours of class, 1 hour 40 mins Assimil, 1 hour listening, 1.5
hours reading (Tintin), 6 hours 10 mins writing (Hugo and class homework).
Started on Assimil when it arrived on Tuesday. Took a few days to find a routine for
me. Reached the end of lesson 5. At end of lesson 5/13 in Hugo. 5 classes left until
end of year :(
I'm enjoying my Tintin book more as my understanding of grammar is improving. I've had
some replies to my pen pal ads which I'll answer this week once we've got the internet
up and running.
Goal for week 3- to maintain 12 hours plus of study and to have written to at least
three people in German.

Week 3 ending- w/e 2 March 2014
10 hours 20 mins of study: 2 hours of class, 2 hrs 40 mins of Assimil, 6 hours of
writing (Hugo and class homework).
Modal verbs introduced in class plus more on the dative case. This has lined up well
with my Hugo. I'm 1/2 way through lesson 6.
Assimil ticking along gently. Cannot get 'Das ist immer daselbe Theater!' out of my
head...Have now completed lesson 10 so 10% done.
I didn't get as much done this week as I'd have liked. I didn't get any free reading
done and I would have liked to have finished chapter 6 of Hugo. My excuse is that I've
been exhausted this week and pushing on would have been counterproductive.
So, for week 4: I will clock up at least 12 hours study. I will read for at least 1
hour in total. I will watch at least 30 mins of a film in German. I will complete
chapters 6 and 7 of Hugo- 8 if possible as these are in tandem with my German class
content at the moment so nothing that new. And I'll get those pen pal replies answered
as I have broadband again!
