I just stumbled upon your log. I'm impressed by all your German learning.

Thanks Patrick. Still waiting on the payoff...
How's your own German going? Whereabouts in Germany are you?

[Not really a proper log entry- more a new list of resources]
As I've managed to buy a couple of DVDs lately from Oxfam with German soundtracks, I
went through my collection to see what I have available to me. I found I have:
Grease
Ghostbusters 1 & 2
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The Last Samurai
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Office Space
West Side Story
Dr Flynn (TV)
Friends (5 episodes)
And Run, Lolam Run- of course.
Ghostbusters was a very pleasant surprise! R.I.P. Ivan Reitman.
So, finding that I'm only just 'sort of' understanding Peppa Pig (Peppa Wutz) without
subtitles, this gives me plenty of listening practice :)

My German is coming along, but still got a way to go. I am about B2 for reading/B1 for speaking at the moment. I'm living in Berlin, which helps.

Excellent! I love Berlin! I went a few years ago. I stayed in Mittel (?) for a week and
had a great time taking everything in. I'm aiming to return in the next few years with my
best friend. She's German and well traveled but has never actually been to Berlin.

Week 14
w/e 18/5/14
Total time studying: 7 hours 30 mins
Theme of the week(s):achieved more than I thought in the time
Work completed
Hugo book 1- 2/3rds of chapter 12 of 13
Assimil- lesson 50(first wave) and 1 (second wave)
I finished 'Die Schwarze Isel'- Tim und Struppi! Yes, I'm still missing lots of words
but I can read more for pleasure with what I do know. Poor Ranko, though...
Thoughts
Due to family stuff, couldn't fit studying in so well. Only have 1 more study session
to finish the first Hugo book.
Finally, I've reached the active wave with Assimil. I was a bit anxious about the
translation side of things but it went completely fine.
Goals for next week
Need a quieter week this week so
Assimil to lesson 55/5
Hugo Week 13- finish book.

2 whole months?! I have returned.
I just wasn't feeling up to doing any book work or listening- was constantly tired and
having a fluctuating virus. In the end, it developed into sinus infection. Luckily,
antibiotics did the trick. Otherwise, brain has been struggling fitting in exercise and
art stuff plus medical appointments etc. Back to the grindstone on Monday!
So, where am I?
I have been meeting up with folks from my German class once a week for a chapter out of
our Living German textbooks. This has definitely been useful to cement the basics.
I've signed up for the Improvers' class at my local college. It needs 7 to run. I think
so far 5 are definite. 2 definitely aren't. 1 not decided. 1 unknown. So we really need
a couple of newcomers to our group to ensure it'll run.
We'll only know the week before if it's running- should start 15th September.
I've also just signed up to a 'Sherlock' fan group on Facebook that's in German. Might
do a couple more. I was on a German language learners' one but it was oddly full of
rather political middle East folk...so I left.
Goals for this week
To upload more 'Comedian Harmonists' mp3s to listen to.
To upload more slow German podcasts
To watch 30 mins of something in German- tv or dvd.
To restart my Assimil course at lesson 50 (first wave)
