I've actually dropped 1% on my DW placement test since May!!!!
Okay- so I can't expect to be B1 yet. I'd had 2 months of zero studying. In total, I've
had- 20 weeks of evening class and 6 months of self-study with no speaking...

I guess it's the thing that the increase in ability from zero to A1 is sharp. A1-A2 is
double that. A2-B1 is double that- so I've got to accept the inevitable plateau in
order to keep going and get that metaphorical leg up...

How to improve:
Get back to basics- restart my revision of the Hugo German in 3 months. Go through each
of my grammar books for the points we have covered in class so far.

Also, in just over a week, I'm going to a function for our Town Twinning association
where there will be almost 50 Germans! Hoping this'll be good practice. Have never
spoken to a stranger in German before- there had to come a time!

On August 5, 2014, 10:53 am you took the Deutsch Welle placement test at the of the
Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). You attempted 30 of the 30 questions
which
took a total of 74:17 minutes.

Your overall result is 55%.

EVALUATION:

40% - 59%
Not quite! Your German is still at A2 level, but if you enroll for a format that is
already halfway towards B1, you should soon achieve B1 competence.

Long time, no update but still learning! New year of classes has begun. Will update
more fully soon.

Anyhow- look at this!!!!!

Your overall result is 60%.

EVALUATION:

60% - 79%
Very good! You have reached the CEFR B1 competence level. If you would like to
continue improving your German, you should enroll for a format that is now starting
towards the B2 level.

Yay! It's as low a pass as you can get- and really just reading and listening but it's
in the ballpark of what I wanted to be. So B1 by the Summer could be a reality at
last...

Which is a genuine surprise. My understanding is improving but my output is
negligible. Off to book my first ever Skype session this pm!
