Here is a cornucopia of interesting extensions to your English skills for ye logoleptics out there who aren't too keen on being understood by the average native speaker: www.kokogiak.com/logolepsy/. Many years ago I gave my mother a book named "Mrs. Byrne's Dictionary of Unusual, Obscure, and Preposterous Words" (after having read it, obviously), and this digital effort seems to have the same aim, namely to show how you how far you are from knowing every nook and cranny of the English language. The risk is of course that you start using the words you learn.
From the section on 'L' I made this list of words I didn't know: labanotation labefact labefy labellate labidophorous laches laciniate lacis laconicum lactarium lacteal lacuscular lacustrine laevoduction lagena lagnosis lagophthalmus lagotic lallation lalochezia lambent .. and this featuring the words I did know (and most of them are so common that I really can't how they made it to this unashamed tribute to arcane vocabulary). labile labiodental lacertilian lachrymal lactate lactescent lactivorous lacuna ladrone lagan laic lallophobia lama PS: did you know that the word for a person who never has had a haircut is acersecomic?. Vart finner människor de har ord? Jag trodde att jag visste ganksa mycket engelska ord men jag måste erkänna att jag vet bara tre eller fyra av de: lachrymal, labiodental, lactate och lacuna. Lactate är ju det måste känd ord här. Jag har aldrig sett de andra ord. Kanske måste det engelska språket inte skapar mera nya ord, vi har redan för mycket ordförråd nu! Most of the words on that homepage aren't really new words - they are old and dusty words used by scholars who wanted to show that they once upon a time had studied Latin and Greek, and now they have been collected by people who revel in human weirdness

Right now I'm listening to the podcasts at the Polyglot Project (access through either chirb.it/xP8pws, syzygyonlanguages.wordpress.com or David Mansaray.com, and right now I have reached the last part of the interview with Robert Bigler (RobAustria). He is first and foremost a simultaneous interpreter, and that's one job I never have wished to have. Actually he explains that it may be easier to be a simultaneous interpreter than a consecutive one, because the former doesn't demand as good a memory - you just follow the speaker without trying to remember anything. Later in the interview he mentions profArguelles and his shadowing technique (which he didn't hear about during his studies, but only much later from Youtube), which also is a technique where you listen and speak at the same time. I normally think I can multitask to a reasonable degree, but listening while speaking simply doesn't function for me. In those cases where I have done interpreting (at a totally informal level) I have always done so consecutively.
