I like McGraw Hill 'Practice Makes Perfect' series in which you can get stuff at so
many
levels for general grammar, specific points (such as verb tenses, pronouns and
prepositions etc) and thing like reading, sentence building and other practice
materials.

I have their books for French, German, Italian, Spanish and the new 'Basic Chinese' one
and there are many more on my Amazon wishlist.

I agree totally with Chung about getting them new on Amazon UNLESS the Marketplace
offer
states that the book is unmarked. My experience is that sellers tend to understate the
condition and that they're often better than advertised.

I haven't recieved it yet (should be here by the end of the day) but I ordered Living
Language Ultimate German Beginner-Intermediate book.

I'm also not very strong on grammar and I'm hoping that this book will be good for
review, vocabulary acquisition, and grammar concepts I don't quite get. It's a huge
book at 448 pages. When I finish with this one, I'll start looking at getting the
Advanced one

I can recommend you an excellent book:

Dreyer, Schmitt, Lehr- und Übungsbuch der deutschen Grammatik, Verlag für Deutsch, 1985

You would need to order the "Lösungsschlüssel" as well.

I bought this book some years ago and I hope that is still available.

Unless I'm being really dumb, it's available quite reasonably on Amazon (about £30in the UK). If prices are
extortionate where you are, I'll add that meanwhile, back in

Copy paste and remove the space between the two m's in Gram matik
(there are also A, and C versions)
The A version has some explanations in English. The B and C versions are pure German.
Solutions booklet is included.

I have the A version, but I have not worked on it yet. Too many books in my
collection.

(Worth doing an Amazon search on "Martin Durrell" and see what you can find).

BTW, Martin Durrell also does a dictionary of synonyms.

EDIT: I found a bad review of the Durrell synonyms book, which perhaps was not totally
unjustified, but it included this interesting tip:

If you like Anki style approach there is an interesting Supermemo course:

Mit dem Erfolg zum Zertifikat Deutsch

It is based on a course by Klett and it will keep your asking to arrange words, type-in words, etc., until you get it right and long afterwards.
