	In his book "Sprachen Lernen: (k)ein Problem?" (Urania: Leipzig, 1984), Wolfgang Gruhn states that an Italian professor at the University of Bologna named either Tagliavani or Taglivani is the greatest living polyglot, knowing all living European languages, having lectured in 25, and "currently" learning three or four languages each year. I've never been able to find any other trace of this man. Has anyone heard anything about him? 1 person has voted this message useful

	Ardaschir, according to the Universit� di Bologna, there is no professor named Tagliavani nor Taglivani in the University. The only person named Tagliavani, related to Bologna, which I have found, is Annamaria Tagliavani, but it seems she's a philosopher, 1 person has voted this message useful

	Thank you very much for this information. The book from which the lead came is otherwise quite reliable, and it states that he both studied there and taught there. Is it possible that he died or moved on? Did you call and ask, and did they just say that there was currently no such person there, or did they say that they had never heard of such a person? 1 person has voted this message useful

	In the University's web page, you can search for any employee or teacher in the Universti� di Bologna. (http://www.unibo.it/Portale/Strumenti+del+Portale/Cerca/cer ca.htm?mode=WebAdvanced) As you can check it yourself, there is no teacher called so at the University nowadays. I have just sent an e-mail to ask if he has been a professor there at some time in the past. 1 person has voted this message useful

	First of all I'd like to thank Professors Sergio Scalise, Romana Zacchia and Claudia Magnani, from the Universit� degli Studi di Bologna, for the help on tracking down Mr. Taglivani. Thank you very much. His name was Carlo Tagliavini, colleague of Luigi Heilmann. He was a great polyglot and he wrote manuals of glottology. After leaving the above mentioned University, he was a teacher at Padova until he died not very long ago. His collection of books lies now in Udine. Some of the books he wrote are: "La stratificazione del lessico albanese" "Un nome al giorno: Origine e storia di nomi di persona italiani" "O Psaltire rom�neasca necunoscuta din 1748 (Analele Academiei Rom�ne, Memoriile Sectiunii Literare)" "Scritti Minori" "In Ungheria (Civilt� Italiana nel mondo" 2 persons have voted this message useful
