This man, born in the 18th century, claimed to know two hundred languages, of which he could speak roughly a hundred.

He lived in the 18th century and could they get 200 educated natives together at that time?
Don't think so.
I reckon he could get by in common situations for most of them, but 200?
That'll always be the dream.
