Hi, I'm Fasulye-Babylonia and I will from time to time inform the forum about my learning activities and progress of the Turkish language.
Sorry, I will not enter a second study language into this competition, because I work in a full-time job, I have other languages to deal with and I don't want to give up other important hobbies.
STATUS QUO ANTE of my Turkish:
I work with the textbook and workbook "Güle Güle" (Max Hueber Verlag) and with the 2 CDs belonging to this book.
I have restarted learning Turkish in May 2008 and so far I have worked through the chapters: 1-9 and 15-17 of the 20 chapters of this book. My count of the Units 1-9 is: 450 words.
I attend Turkish classes at the adult education centre (Aufbaustufe 1)
and I have a private study group with my study parnter W.
In my estimation my present level of Turkish is that I have already quite a good basis of grammar and vocabulary on an A1 - level. I am able to write e-mails by using my dictionary, but I have almost no speaking ability.
STAUS QUO POST - My goal:
I just want to continue my present strategy of learning. By the end of 2009 I want to have completed "Güle Güle" textbook and workbook. For the rest I don't want to put me under any specific performance pressure.

To start my log my program for this week:
In our AEC (= adult education center) course we were busy with chapter 17 yesterday.
We are between 2-6 participants in the course, our teacher is a native speaker of Turkish.
Grammar topic was yesterday: Comparisons
For example:
Bu defter ince.(This notebook is thin.)
Bu kitap daha kalin.(This book is thicker.)
Bu sözlük en kalin. (This dictionary is the thickest.)
Today like on every Tuesday evening I will have my private workgroup Turkish with W. and we are going to finish chapter 9 of our book "Güle Güle".
If I have enough time this week, I will write a Turkish e-mail to my tandem partner in Turkey.

Good luck! Daristani has stated on previous occasions, and I can affirm from my own study, that Teach Yourself Turkish by Geoffrey Lewis (the old TY version) is one of the best explanations of Turkish grammar. It may be mostly review for you but it is still an excellent addition if you ever build up a collection of Turkish resources, and is usually available on used book sites.

Thanks for the encouragement! This is my first language logbook ever and I think it may be interesting for forum members to get insight into my learning methods, because I am not an "alone-learner", I always try to learn together with other people or to to correspondence courses. The Dutch LOI offer a high quality Turkish correspondence course, but I can't afford it, it is too expensive. I have already bought "ASSIMIL Türkisch ohne Mühe" but first we will work through the whole book "Güle Güle". W. is less intermediate than I am, so I have to chose material which is not too difficult for him.

As grammar references I use the following:
1. PONS Grammatik auf einen Blick, Türkisch
2. Türkische Grammatik für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene
von Margarete I. Ersen Rasch, Hueber-Verlag, 2004

I am exactly the same! As I said in my log, I couldn't do it without the community! But the nature of language learning is not exactly the most alone and non-social one you can do (a.k.a. you have to go out and speak and interact with others in another language!)!
Good luck again, sorry my other post was very short, but I don't know much about Turkish and couldn't think of anything else to write.

In Turkish I haven't yet the language level to converse, nor have I got the language level to understand Turkish news programs on the German Radio. I still call me a beginner. Generally I need a person ore an instituion who / which keeps me learning. This can be a teacher, or a tutor of a corresponendce course, or a language course or my study partner. Totally on my own I would stop studying after three weeks.
This log is about the Turkish language, of course, but it also about my learning techniques in general. Both belongs together, the target language I chose and my techniques to study it. Therefore also people who are infamiliar with Turkish can give me advice, then in a more general way. Also these kind of comments are highly appreciated.
