SELF-STUDY GRAMMAR UNIT 13 OF THE BOOK "GÜLE GÜLE"

Sitting in the metro this morning I discoverd that the grammar conjugation schemes of Unit 13 are somewhat incomplete and so I would like add the missing links to my TAC log.

Suffixes of the past used in questions:

Dün büroda mıydım? = War ich gestern im Büro?
Dün büroda mıydın?
Dün büroda mıydı?
Dün büroda mıydık?
Dün büroda mıydınız?
Dün büroda mıydı / mıydılar?

Eskiden öğrenci değil miydim? = War ich früher kein Student / keine Studentin?
Eskiden öğrenci değil miydin?
Eskiden öğrenci değil miydi?
Eskiden öğrenci değil miydik?
Eskiden öğrenci değil miydiniz?
Eskiden öğrenci değil miydi / miydiler?

These conjugation patterns I have built by myself, they are not given in my "Güle Güle" workbook. But it is important for me to memorize them, so I am glad that I have the possibility to practise this here and that I can share it with the readers of my log.

Hi Sprachkollegin!

Kolay gelsin!!!

ASTRONOMY SESSION INSPIRED BY A TURKISH FILM IN THE CIMEMA

EN: I have just come back after having watched my third Turkish film in the cinema. I have understood the small talk in Turkish with the typical introduction phrases quite well, but this time I will not write a film report. In this film there was a scene where the two protagonists were talking about the sun, the moon, the stars and the planets, so this is inspiring me to look up a dosis of Turkish astronomy - vocabulary.

To find the words I will use my comprehensive bilingual dictionary "Hollandaca - Türkçe". The Turkish language has got no definite articles!

het zonnestelsel = güneş sistemi
de zon = güneş
het planetenstelsel = gezegenler sistemi
de planeten = gezegenler

Mercurius = merkür
Venus = venüs
de aarde = dünya
de maan = ay
Mars = mars
Jupiter = jüpiter (? ) - een gokje, want het staat niet in het woordenboek
Saturnus = satürn

EN: By using such a dictionary concerning a certain word field, you can estimate the quality of the dictionary very well. This seems to be a dictionary which covers general words like "the sun", "the star", but specific astronomic jargon is missing.

NL: Dit hier heeft natuurlijk helemaal niets met mijn leerboek "Güle Güle" te maken, maar ik vind het leuk om bij deze gelegenheid ook wat Turkse woordenschat op het gebied van mijn hobby astronomie te verwerven.

Here are the words (and some others :-) which were not in your dictionary:

der Weltraum = uzay
das Universum = evren
die Galaxie = gökada
der Jupiter = Jüpiter
der Uranus = Uranüs
der Neptun = Neptün
das schwarze Loch = karadelik
der Nebelfleck = uzay sisi
der Asteroid = gezegencik
der Komet = kuyrukluyıldız
de Schweif = kuyruk
die Finsternis = tutulma
die Umlaufbahn = yörünge
die Schwerkraft = çekim gücü
der Meteor = akanyıldız
die Astronomie = gökbilimi
das Sternenbild = takımyıldız
die Supernova = süpernova

I used Visuelles Wörterbuch Türkisch Deutsch and the online dictionary at Deutsch-Türkisch.net

And perhaps this site is of interest for you :-)

başarılar!

INTEGRATING MULTILINGUALITY INTO MY TAC 2009 LOG

This issue is of course raised by Iversen who is the eminent promotor of multilinguality within the log section of this forum.

I am not writing random things in my log, but the whole "TAC Turkish only log" is based on a didactic concept. My log concept is completely different of your log concept, Iversen. For example my log deals only with one target language - Turkish - and this target language is presented to the readers of my log in a way that also readers without any knowledge of the language get valuable information about this language. So every regular reader of my log will get a clear idea of what this language is about. Iversen, your log is about an unlimited number of target languages and there are other key differences between our logs. Not to forget that I am a participant of the TAC 2009 and you are not.

So - as a multilingual person - I would like to integrate multilinguality into my TAC 2009 log, but only as far it is compatible with the didactic concept of my log. In my log I very much appreciate any form of interchange of comments with other learners of the Turkish language, I like to call them my "language collegues". So far I am in contact with glossa.passion and magister, both of them speak English and German. It would be useless to write a report on the Turkish language in a language such as Italian or Esperanto, which glossa.passion and magister can't understand. This gives a limit to using multilinguality here. But I will introduce more mutlilingual elements into my log as far as I can estimate that it will not build up a language barrier. Concretely speaking this means that I will use more German and Dutch in my TAC log. So my dear readers, don't be surprised about that!

Another aspect of my didactic concept is that any comments and questions are very welcome and if they are substantial (!) I will always reply. My readers of this log are already used to me doing this. Such readers' reactions can be written in any of my languages ENG, GER, ITA, FRA, ESP, ESP, NL and I will reply in one of these languages. So (Iversen!!!) nobody should feel himself or herself limited to English when writing a comment in my TAC log.

The main goal of my Turkish language learning is aquiring the ability of writing in Turkish in this TAC log. On my beginner lever this is only possible in a limited way.But as my learning advances I will use the Turkish language more and more. As time passes the readers of my log will see a development in this direction.

Another topic are private activities concerning other languages. Of course I have to keep up the level of my other 6 foreign languages. You can imagine that I am busy keeping them active, so there are some activities on that front. This here is my "Turkish only log" dealing only with this target language, so these other activities will not be mentioned in my TAC log.

So I hope that the didactic concept of my TAC has become somewhat clear and that people will not be surprised about some new multilingual elements in it. Also it should be understood where this limits of multilinguality within my log are given.

Merhaba glossa.passion,

Sana çok teşekkür ederim! Benimde "Türkisch-Deutsch Visuelles Wörterbuch" var. Bu yararlı ve güzel bir kitap. Haklisin, bu kitapta astronomi sözcükleri var.

EN: Thank you very much! I have got the above mentioned dictionary as well. This is a uselful and beautiful book. You are right, in this book you can find an astronomical vocabulary.

Kolay gelsin mesletktaşım,

Dus je bedoelt dat je ook gesprekjes in de andere talen zult hebben behalve de infos over het Turks? Ik snapte niet precies wat je bedoelde.
