OUR TURKISH STUDY GROUP IN THE LIBRARY After having spent the whole Whitday weekend together with my close friends, I was not at all prepared for our Turkish study group. Therefore I had some vocabulary difficulties with Unit 19 of "Güle Güle". We finished our textbook lesson of Unit 19 and started with the excercises of Unit 19 in the workbook. Some were quite easy for me and others I wasn't capable of doing sponantously, so my studypartner had to help me. Since I have my new job, I miss a bit the routine which gave me more strength for learning activities in the evening. As a homework we will prepare the rest of Unit 19 so that we can finish this unit in our next meeting. We celebrate a kind of anniversary today, because it was exactly one year ago that we started our private study group Turkish. OUR TURKISH STUDY GROUP IN THE LIBRARY It's time to write my weekly study report. W. and I we were both well prepared to present the remaining exercises of Unit 19 in our workbook "Güle Güle". I presented to W. what Ergurul had written about the history of the Turkish language and and the influence of the Persian, Arabic, French and English loanwords in this language. Fortunately, I hadn't made any bigger mistakes in my excercises. So this week I can start with the preparation of Unit 20, the last unit of our book. On Thursday there will be a Christian holiday in Germany ("Fronleichnam"), which will allow me some extra time for language studies. The last weeks I had to struggle between focusing (on Turkish) and diversifying (on my other languages), which forms a general dilemma for polyglots. Of course I have to keep up the levels of my other languages and I cannot travel around, so I must do this here in Germany. The more I focus on Turkish the less I can maintain the levels of my other languages. The challenge is to find the right balance. If I have some inspiration to read a French newspaper or (tomorrow!!!) go to a lecture in Spanish at the adult education centre (VHS), I just do that in between. Hi Fasulye,
I was busy with the work. I've just watched your language-video. I congratulate you. I think, learning more than two languages brings you up on the horns of a dilemma. And i call to this: "wow" What a nice dilemma :) I don't know which books or tapes may help you while learning Turkish but i can help what you don't understand on a certain exercises or whatever. Hi Ertugrul, It's nice to hear that already so many people enjoyed watching my You Tube video. I put a lot of work in it, this gives me motivation to make another one in the future. Thank you for your offer of language assistance. It's helpful for me to have a native speaker whom I can ask, because our private study group works without a teacher and I have no private contacts with Turkish people in Germany. My studypartner says that the Turkish language level of Turkish people living in Germany can be quite different. If I have specific language questions for example about grammar I would like to ask such questions in this log to help my fellow Turkish students as well. OUR PRIVATE STUDY GROUP IN THE VHS-BUILDING It's not business as usual, because I had a study crisis caused by obstacles to my study process and I had to find a solution. My analysis showed that the reason for it was my concentration on Sunday as the main language learning day. What happened? On several weekends I had guests or was sick with a headache and I became frustrated, because I was not able to study Turkish. This week I decided to restructure my time schedule and I will now study everyday in the morning before work in a public cafe and in the evening in the library. Then I get sessions of 45 minutes or one hour, that works fine for me. If I get a headache on one day, it will not be a problem any more. With my new schedule I was well prepared for our study group, in which we worked through Unit 20 (the last unit!) of our textbook "Güle Güle". This unit deals with different pieces of furniture and with questions and answers at a hotel reception. So practically useful vocabulary is presented. Probably I will get a free afternoon from work this week to prepare the excercises of Unit 20 in the workbook. But anyway I will do early morning sessions as well... After Unit 20 the Güle Güle book offers some "modules", these are vocabulary topics being independent from other units. OUR TURKISH STUDY GROUP IN THE LIBRARY As we had an astronomy topic to talk about, there was less time left for our study session because the library closes at 7 p.m. We could compare our homework concerning Unit 20 in the workbook. We both had good results, so this unit appeared not to be so difficult as the previous one. But there is still a tiny rest of Unit 20 left to compare next week. As our homework wel will start with Module 1 which presents some useful vocabulary about the weather. If I have enough time, I will give some vocabulary examples in this log.
