OUR STUDYGROUP TURKISH IN THE LIBRARY
Our main topic of the evening were Ertugrul's grammar corrections of Johannes' homework. We went through the explanations together, which we had studied on our own as a preparation. Johannes told me that some grammar features had not been clear to him, because there were no explanations in our "Güle Güle" workbook, where there should have been. I have more previous knowledge about Turkish than he because I had attended serveral Turkish courses in the 90s already. But this advantage will minimalize in the next year of our study group, I expect.
Besides this we checked the vocabulary of the last modules 4 + 5 of "Güle Güle". Apparently Johannes knew every single word, whereas some words couldn't stick in my head. Working with these "modules" = collections of "naked words" without any context showed to me that it's very hard for me to memorize "naked words". That's what I always thought that for my vocabulary learning having a context is very helpful if not to say essential. My memory is not good enough to just cram in such words. I should rather build logical bridges between words and memorize whole short expressions.
TAC GOAL ACHIEVED!
My main TAC 2009 goal was to work though the whole two books (textbook and workbook) of "Güle Güle". Today we got this finished.
Next week we will start with our new book:
"Einstieg Türkisch für Kurzentschlossene" - Hueber-Verlag
(Buch mit 2 Audio - CDs)

Hueber-Verlag's Einstieg Türkisch für Kurzentschlossen book is a good choice as far as i know, it's quite deeper than Güle Güle to improve. I've reviewed it and it is fine.
If you have problems to get the book it's free on Google-Books.
Here is the link if you want to study on computer, or you can print it out too:

Hi Ertugrul,
Johannes and I, we have already purchased the book, for a study book with CDs it's cheap, about 20 EUR, as I remember. "Einstieg Türkisch" is a very modern book with a lot of excercises and with very detailed information on the Turkish culture, which is very different form the German/Dutch one. I find it very important to be well informed also about the cultural background of the country of a my target language.
There is an alphabetical vocab list in the back of the book, but I would prefer having the vocabs grouped per unit.

Tuesday, 28 July 2009 = Salı, 28 temmuz 2009 (EDIT)
OUR TURKISH STUDY GROUP IN THE LIBRARY
I was a bit absent of this forum the last few days because I am now also very active on the LingQ website of Steve Kaufmann studying Spanish there, which has a consequence that I now want to think in Spanish all day long! But besides this - of course - I have my Turkish pensum to do.
This evening we had our first study meeting with our new book "Einstieg Türkisch". My studyparnter was a bit confused about it because it's so different from "Güle Güle". I myself have got a positive first experience when preparing Unit 1. Every unit contains two whole pages written in German about Turkish culture, which I find very interesting to read. Every unit contains two short dialogues and lots of excercises with grammar and spelling information. Today we finished Unit 1 and we started with Unit 2.
There is not much new about it, as it is a re-shuffeling of our previous knowledge, but
there are some country names presented, such as:
- Polonya = Poland
- İngiltere = England
- Danimarka = Denmark
- Avusturya = Austria
- Hollanda = The Netherlands
- Fransa = France
- İsvriçre = Switserland
- Belçika = Belgium
- Suriye = Syria
- Rusya = Russia
- Yunanistan = Greece
- Kıbrıs = Cyprus
- Bulgaristen = Bulgaria
I really aprreciate the re-shuffeling of my knowledge rather than advancing with an intermediate book, so I enjoy studying with our new book. As our homework we agreed on preparing both Units 2 and 3 for the next time.
