COMPUTER INSTABILITY
For already some days my computer has been very unstable. Sometimes the monitor light remains dark and I cannot read anything. Over two weeks I will receive a new computer. For the time being I will write only a minimum of posts in my log. Of course I will inform about our study group in the library.

OUR TURKISH STUDY GROUP IN THE LIBRARY
On this hot summer day we met again for our Turkish study session. We both had prepared Unit 2 and Unit 3 of our new textbook "Einstieg Türkish" and we dealt with both units in our meeting. In fact there were no real new grammar features for us and 98 % of the vocabulary was known to us as well.
So I will present to my readers a bilingual list Turkish - German of Biblical names, which is presented in Unit 3. As far as I know these Biblical people are regarded as prophets in Islam.
Here's the list:
Adem = Adam
Havva = Eva
İbrahim = Abraham
İsmail = Ismael
Yakup = Jakob
Yusuf = Josef
Musa = Moses
Süleyman = Salomon
Salih = Methusalem
Yahya = Johannes
Suzan = Susanne
İsrafil = Raffael
Yunus = Jonas
Eyüb = Hiob
Especially my studypartner Johannes is now aware of his Turkish name Yahya. Fasulye is a Turkish word anyway, so nobody needs to translate my nickname.

You can add these too:
Nuh = Noah
Davud = David
Harun = Aaron
İshak = Isaac
Bünyamin = Benjamin
Danyal = Daniel
Zekeriya = Zachary
Cebrail = Gabriel
Mikail = Michael
Meryem = Mary
Mustafa = Stephan
İsa = Jesus
All these names are common in Turkey and parents still give these names (Turkish ones) to their babies.

Thanks for the completion of my list, Ertugrul. In Germany it's legally forbidden for parents to give the name "Jesus" to a child, whereas this is a very common first name in Spain.

Jesus is certainly a popular name for boys throughout the Spanish-speaking world. I hadn't realized that it was legally forbidden in Germany; do you happen to know the position in other countries? Mary (or Maria, Marie) is widespread, however, in Germany too, I believe.

"Eva" and "Maria" are very common first names in Germany, only "Jesus" is not allowed here. I cannot speak for other countries.
