since several days I don't enjoy this forum at all. Every 2 minutes I'm asked to pay 30 Dollars and I don't find what I'm kooking for. This is not useful for me. Johannes, there is a bug and the Administrator has to fix it. He cannot do such work in the weekend. In the "Technical Subforum" the Administrator informed about it. OUR TURKISH STUDY MEETING IN THE LIBRARY This meeting developed very differently than it was planned. Johannes and I, we had both had done our Turkish homework, as always. But we didn't get any chance to deal with Turkish, because Johannes brought up the topic of "Pro Accounts & Forum Features" and I saw a necessity to discuss this in detail with him. So our only topic were the recent forum developments and I could give him some infos about this, because as a moderator I have more insight about what's going on here, than for example new forum members. LANGUAGE SELF-STUDY TURKISH: Unit 12 + test 3 I will sum up my self-study activities. Unit 12 of "Einstieg Türkisch" deals with airplane flights within Turkey. There's a dialoge of a flight booking at the airport. The grammar of this unit is more or less a repetiton of what I had learned in the "Güle Güle" book. Doing Test 3 was partly difficult, I had some grammar problems translating sentences from German to Turkish. I have to do more vocabulary learning of Turkish. When I had my job, the vocabulary learning was more ritualized, I am now too free to schedule everything, so I discover that my vocabulary learning has become less intensive. SELF-STUDY BEGINNER's PROBLEMS
I decided to quit our study group, this is a new situation for me, as I am not experienced with self-study. I now face some beginner's problems with it. 1. First thing is that I have to self-control every excersise I make with the answer-key of the book. Johannes and I had found out that there are mistakes in the answer-key of "Einstieg Türkish", so I am rather self-conscious with using this as a control mechanism. This is quite annoying. But now I have to self-control everything. 2. The other thing is the assimilation of the Turkish language. Concretely this means that I have to read out ths whole unit to myself, because otherwise I cannot assimilate the language. I woudln't be of any use for me working through the whole unit silently. I am investigating now whether I can get a memo-recorder to record my voice. The recording quality of my old cassette recorder is not good enough, so I can't use it. In any case I have to speak out the language. I expect that there will be some other pittfalls of self-study. SELF-STUDY TURKISH WEEK 41: Unit 13 of "Eintstieg Türkisch" First some general annotations on my self-study project. My deadline for my study project will always be on Tuesday evening (the meeting time of my former study-group). Then I will have to post. Next Tuesday evening I will go to an astronomy lecture in Duisburg, therefore I decided to post already today - in advance. Meanwhile I worked through the whole Unit 13. Very essential for me is to READ the whole unit and all the excercises I do ALOUD to myself, because this is the only chance for me to assimilate what I am learning. As a new method I did some shadowing today in the way that I spoke the dialogue together with the voice of the audio. It's a bit unusual for me, but it works. I do this sitting at my desk and not walking around as Prof Arguelles suggests. There is some new grammar in this unit. I will explain more grammar from now on to make sure that I myself understood it. My personal experience is that things I explain to others I can better memorize myself. 1. First topic: "ile" and "ve". - Both mean: with - mit If you have two adjectives, you have to use "ve". Example: Bu yemek taze ve iyi. If you have two nouns or pronouns, you may chose between "ile" (stronger!) or "ve". Examples: Elma'la armut. Elma ile armut. Elma ve armut. 2. Second topic: "Lust haben" = can + ending + istiyor (= 3. person of "istemek") can = the soul Canım istiyor = Ich habe Lust Canın istiyor Canı istiyor Canımız istiyor Canınız istiyor Canları istiyor Canım gezmek istiyor = Ich habe Lust spazierenzugehen. (literally: Meine Seele will spazierengehen.) 3. The form "olmasın". Example sentence: İyi bir çorba sıcak olsun, fakat fazla sıcak olmasın. Which grammar form is "olmasın"? Well, it's the 3. person singular of the negative imperative. The negative imperative of "olmak": (AB Güle Güle, p. 86) Olmamak (= nicht sein / not to be) sen olma o olmasın siz olmayın / olmayınız onlar olmasın / olmasınlar German translation of the Turkish example sentence: Eine gute Suppe soll heiß, aber nicht zu heiß sein.
