Complete new situation.
Fasulye had to finish our succesful and effective study group because of personal reasons. For me this came suddenly and completly unexpected. I am very sad about it, but life goes on and I don't want to finish my Turkish project! That I made less mistakes in my homework than Fasulye did in the last month gives me hope to try learning alone. I plan finishing the book "Einstieg Türkisch" as soon as possible, because this book is nothing more than a repetition of which I've learned before and accordingly boring. Johannes, if you want to study Turkish on a higher level than I do, you can move on to the book "Günaydin" from Alev Tekinay. Look on Dr. Ludwig Reichert Verlag, Wiesbaden.You can find infos in the internet about the books "Günaydin 1, 2, 3". SELF-STUDY TURKISH, Unit 14 of "Einstieg Türkisch", Week 42 Well, my deadline for week 42 is next Tuesday, but I have worked through the unit, so I can already post my study report. Studying on my own goes well, better than expected. I am only a bit behind with my vocabulary learning, because I have to control everything by myself there is no instance which controls, whether I have learned them well. I have to be a bit stricter with learning vocabulary, otherwise I will get gaps in my knowledge. Unit 14 deals with Turkish food, which is very interesting for me, because I am a good customer at my Turkish supermarket. So far I only spoke German there, but now I have to change to Turkish, because I don't have a studygroup anymore, where I can speak some sentences. So I need to find alternatives for that. And even if I get replies in German, I just have to get Turkish language practise somewhere. Unit 14 contains some excercises about the Past Tense (di-Vergangenheit), but this is not new to me. There is a revision about the Imperative Tense, which is helpful for me, as I tend to struggle with Imperatives also in my Romance languages. To systemize it, I will present the Imperative of the 2nd person: 1. gülmek = lachen = to laugh gül gülün gülmemek = nicht lachen = not to laugh gülme gülmeyin 2. beklemek = warten = to wait bekle bekleyin beklememek = nicht warten = not to wait bekleme beklemeyin 3. bakmak = schauen = to look bak bakın bakmamak = nicht schauen = not to look bakma bakmayın There are other Imperative forms of the 3rd person, but these are not presented in this unit. Another topic: Having hunger. karın = der Bauch = the stomach Karnım aç = I am hungry Karnın aç = You are hungry Karnı aç = He, she, it is hungry Karnımız aç = We are hungry Karnınız aç = You are hungry Karnları aç = They are hungry açmak = öffnen = to open açık = offen = open There are some other minor features in this unit, but these are the most essential ones. I continued shadowing the two dialogues of the unit and reading my sentences of the excercises aloud. As my study deadline is next Tuesday, I have to start with Unit 15 after Tuesday. This gives me the chance to focus on my other languages a bit, which is also necessary from time to time. A polyglot has to keep all languages active! GOALS FOR DANISH STUDY As I do self-study now this gives me the chance to alternate my study of Turkish with a beginner's study of Danish from level zero. Quite some years ago I attended a beginner's Danish course, but I had to break it off because of my Esperanto exam preparation. My first goal for Danish will be to work through the whole textbook "Einstieg Dänisch" (Hueber Verlag) As Turkish is more relevant than Danish for my life in Nordrhein-Westfalen, of course this new language has a kind of "second priority" for me. The members of my Esperanto group promised me to pay for a trip to the Universala Esperanto Kongreso in Kopenhagen in 2011, so this works as an incentive (EDIT) for me. Maybe it rather works as an incentive? "Stimulans" makes me think in terms of coffee or amphetamine or behaviouristic psychology. But interesting that you have 'upgraded' your interest in Danish. If I can help with anything concerning Danish then just ask me.

SELF-STUDY DANISH: Week 42, Unit 1 of "Einstieg Dänish" So this was my first Danish study session. Danish pronounciation is very tricky and I have to listen to the audio carefully. With self-study there is a bit of risk that learn some pronounciation incorrectly as nobody controls me. But I have to bear this risk. My first dosis of grammar is the Present Tense of the regular verbs. There will be some irregular verbs as well - I assume - but they are not part of Unit 1. Let's do the regular ones: 1. hedde = heißen jeg hedder du / De hedder han / hun hedder vi hedder I hedder de hedder 2. tale = sprechen = to speak jeg taler du / De taler han / hun taler vi taler I taler de taler 3. have = haben = to have jeg haver du / De haver han / hun haver vi haver I haver de haver 4. tage = nehmen = to take jeg tager du / De tager han / hun tager vi tager I tager de tager han = he hun = she "De" is the polite "Sie" - form, which is only seldom used in Denmark. I have quite some audios on my recorded CD, but the dialogues are spoken very quickly, it's too fast for me. There's really no chance of doing shadowing with this kind of speed. Also in this unit there are presented quite some names of Danish cities and of Danish Names to train the pronounciation. So far my geography knowledge of Denmark is not far developed, perhaps I should have a look on my atlas from time to time. As I will alternate the study, my next lesson will be a Turkish one again.
