Oh, what a miracle!!! Thanks to those people helping me. I wasn't able to move my log from the Trash Subforum back here. I am very thankful now and I will have fun again with my language studies.

Cheers,

Fasulye

Yes, I was able to revive it. Many moderator privileges will soon be gelded due to the misclick that nearly cost you your log.

SELF-STUDY DANISH: Unit 2 of "Einstieg Danisch", Week 42

Yesterday I spent a while sitting in a café reading aloud my Danish lesson Unit 2 and doing the (EDIT) exercises. Must be strange for people hearing me speaking Danish to nobody, but I find it quite exotic (You never hear any Danish in my city!) and I enjoy doing unusual things.

A repetition for me are the numbers from 1 to 10:

0 = nul
1 = et, en
2 = to
3 = tre
4 = fire
5 = fem
6 = seks
7 = syv
8 = otte
9 = ni
10 = ti

There is a "Kurzgrammatik" in my textbook "Einstieg Dänisch", so I have some extra explanations. There they speak about two genders "Utrum" and "Neutrum". Utrum = male OR female. I have never heard this word "Utrum", which is strange, because also the Dutch language has such a gender (de man + de vrouw).

Let me explain the Danish noun genders to make sure that I have understood it myself:

Utrum:

en stol = ein Stuhl, en by = eine Stadt
stolen = der Stuhl, byen = die Stadt

Neutrum:

et navn = ein Name, et værelse = ein Zimmer
navnet = der Name, værelset = das Zimmer

The plural form of the nouns will come in later units.

Like in my Turkish textbook there is a lot of info in my Danish book about Danish culture. I have already learned something in my Danish course some years ago, but I am eager to learn more, as for me "intercultural competence" is a very important skill.

As Danish pronounciation is tricky, I will always do some listening and reading excercises in between.

Next week after Tuesday I will have to study Turkish again to stick to the alternation scheme of the two target languages.

A little explanation: utrum is Latin for "either one of two". So a noun taking en is "either" masculine of feminine.
neutrum is also Latin, for "neither", in grammar meaning "neither" masculine nor feminine. Neuter, German sächlich, means neither männlich nor weiblich, word-gender-wise, not real gender-wise (e.g. das Weib is neuter as word, but feminine in real life).
And a little spelling: exercises doesn't need a c after the x.

Good to get this background knowledge of important grammar expressions. And of course I corrected my English spelling mistake.
