Hi Fasulye !

We don't say "danimarkaca" in Turkish you should use "danca" I know many people who use it the wrong way :) danimarkaca means "denmarkish" it doesn't refer to the language spoken in denmark

Important to know, Mert! In this case my dictionary gives wrong information.

TURKISH SELF-STUDY WEEK 43: UNIT 15 of "Einstieg Türkisch"

Yesterday I finished Unit 15 which deals with a visit in a restaurant in Turkey. I like these food topics in Turkish, because this is related to my own life experience in my German city. I have experience with Türkish "dönercis", Turkish restaurants and am a regular customer in Turkish supermarkets.

Important to know is expressing hunger and thirst:

I am hungry. = Karnım aç.
I am thirsty. = Susadım.

Another relevant topic in this unit are the different ways to appologize.

In my book are listed:

- Affedersin / affedersiniz
- Pardon
- Özür dilerim / Özür dileriz
- Kusura bakma
- Are there other expressions???

In my book there are not enough explanations and examples given for these, so I would ask the readers of my log to quote me example sentences and give me explanations on these forms. Thanks in advance!

And - last but not least - "gefallen" = hoşuna gitmek

This expression was already given in my previous "Güle Güle" book, but I have difficulties to konjugate this, so let me try:

I like pide: Pide hoşuma gidiyor.
You like pide: Pide hoşuna gidiyor.
He/she/it likes pide: Pide hoşuna gidiyor.
We like pide: Pide hoşumuza gidiyor.
You like pide: Pide hoşunuza gidiyor.
They like pide: Pide hoşlarına gidiyor.

I am looking forward to receiving some input on "apologizing in Turkish". And I will try to work through the next Danish lesson this weekend.

There is no self-study report this week, because I will have my leg operation.

- Affedersin / affedersiniz
we write this in this type but we pronounce as "afedersin(iz)", and it exactly means
pardon.

- Pardon
usually in momentary excuses

- Özür dilerim / Özür dileriz
we don't use this phrase very often. we prefer this when the situation we cause is
really bad.

- Kusura bakma
we usually use pardon in momentary excuses but you can use this whenever you want to.

- Are there other expressions???
as i remember, no. :)

Thanks for your comment. I conclude out of this that "affedersiniz" and "pardon" are synonyms and that "kusura bakma" has a broader meaning and is more flexible in usage.

I am very happy to see that my TAC Turkish/Danish log has past the 50.000 visitors! I will do my best to reach the 100.000 as well, as I have the intention to continue logging for the next year 2010. I couldn't really imagine doing language self-study without keeping a log.

After my leg operation I am on recovery now. I visit the forum regularly to read everything important. But I shouldn't sit very long at my desk (using the computer for example), because it's better to put my leg on a chair. Therefore I now avoid doing deskwork.

God bedring.

At least you can read with your leg on a chair, and maybe you could also make video clips?
