God bedring.

At least you can read with your leg on a chair, and maybe you could also make video clips?

Mange tak, Iversen.

It's an excellent treatment for me now to sit in my armchair with my leg on my office chair reading "Sprachkrimis" in foreign languages while listening to my audios using my MP3 - player or watching TV (more than usually). So even under special circumstances my foreign languages will not be neglected.

DANISH SELF-STUDY: Unit 3 of "Einstieg Dänisch", week 45

My operation is now one week ago, but I'm still on recovery. That means that I should not sit at a desk for a long time. Before my operation I had already worked on Unit 3 of Danish and I could finish it this evening. Of course the Danish pronounciation is still difficult for me. I can mimick it quite well when I hear it, but without using the audio I am not always sure how to pronounce everything.

The grammar of Unit 3 presents two auxilary verbs:

1. skulle = sollen (should)
jeg skal
du/De skal
han/hun skal
vi skal
I skal
de/De skal

2. kunne = können (can)
jeg kan
du/De kan
han/hun kan
vi kan
I kan
de/De kan

Examples:

Skal vi gå derhen?
Kan du tale tysk?
Kan De tale dansk?
Skal jeg tage bussen?

Another important topic are the numbers from 11-20, this is a repetition for me, because I had already learned them at my VHS Danish course some years ago.

11 = elleve
12 = tolv
13 = tretten
14 = fjorten
15 = femten
16 = seksten
17 = sytten
18 = atten
19 = nitten
20 = tyve

They are not pronounced as they are written anyway, so I always have to learn spelling plus pronounciation. It must be a real challenge for Danish kids to write dictations at elementary school.

My next task will be to work on my next Turkish lesson. But as I am still on recovery, I will take my time to do it.

"Kan De tale dansk?"

So sagt man vielleicht wenn man zur Königin spricht, aber sonst sagt man heute immer 'du' (wie hier im Forum).

In meinem Lehrbuch steht, dass diese dänische Sie-Form auch zum Beispiel vom Hotelpersonal gegenüber Touristen benutzt wird und auch von Firmen gegenüber Kunden.Stimmt das etwa nicht?

DANISH INTERROGATIVE PRONOUNS

I have a request to the Danish readers of my log:

I have learnt "hvordan" and "hvad" so far, but these pronouns look all very similar.

Could you please list up the most important interrogative pronouns - giving 2 example sentences for each of them? I need a systematical overview, where I can refer to.

Sure, here is a few.

Hvordan ("how"), a manner/way something is done.
Hvordan kan det være at? How can it be that? Hvordan kører man en bil? How do you drive
a car?

Hvad ("what").
Hvad er det der? What is that there? Hvad har jeg gjort? What have I done?
Hvad siger du? What say you? Hvad er klokken? What is clock-the? Hvad er det for et
dyr? What is that for a animal?

Hvor (where) is about location/place.
Hvor bor du? Where lives you? Hvor kan man finde? Where can you find?

Hvornår (when) is about time.
Hvornår spiller FCK fodbold? When plays FCK football? Hvornår kommer du? When comes
you?

Hvorfor (why) is the reason for something?
Hvorfor er jorden rund? Why is earth-the round? Hvorfor er blomsten rød? Why is flower-
the red?

Tak, det er meget vigtig at vide for mig. In my textbook I have learned "Hvordan", "Hvad" and "Hvor" so far.

Very useful vocabulary in these example sentences. I just studied the vocabulary and wrote the most important new words in my vocabulary book.

In English you say: "when are you here?" and answer: "when i come".

But in danish that is: "hvornår er du her?", and answer "når jeg kommer"

If you have to translate "when" into danish, "hvornår" is used when asking, and at all
other times it is "når".

So the English "when" is the equivalent of "hvornår" and "når".
