SELF-STUDY TURKISCH: Assimil, Bölüm 1-5, Week 15 Yesterday I had a huge study session of Assimil. The first 20 lessons of Assimil I already know quite well, because I have listend to the audios several times. But yesterday I seriously studied the lessons by reading the texts aloud, looking up a few unknown words, listening to the audios again and by doing the little exercises "fill in the gaps". I like the texts, because they reflect some typical elements of Turkish culture. The explanations are also interesting, wheras the grammar of the first lessons is of course well-known to me. Assimil offers a grammar review in every 7th lesson instead of a Turkish text. Assimil promises to lead to B2 level, so we'll see of this can be achieved. No irritation, because I will continue with my "Lextra Sprachkurs Türkisch" as well.It's a kind of variation that I use Assimil additionally. SELF-STUDY TURKISH: Assimil Bölüm 6+8, Week 15 Today I had my second study session with Assimil before going to work. It's a good psychological trick, because such language study gives me satisfaction (I love studying languages!) and I start working with a positive feeling. So today I worked through the lessons 6 and 8, by skipping lesson 7, which only gives grammar explanations about topics I already know. My Assimil method is listening carefully, shadowing (while sitting at the table), having a close look at the spelling, doing the "fill in the gaps" exercises, writing new words in my vocabulary book and working on the memorization of the vocabulary. What I like about Assimil is the choice of texts, the interesting infos about Turkish culture and the excellent quality of the audio CDs. I would prefer having more language exercises to work through, this is a weak point of Assimil. Tomorrow I don't know, whether I will have time for language study, but I will cook a traditional Turkish vegetarian meal (the cooking book is in German) and I will write about it in my cooking log. SELF-STUDY TURKISH: Assimil Bölüm 9, Week 15 Today I studied only one Assimil lesson. I enjoy shadowing very much with the Assimil audios, which I have recorded on my MP3-payer from the CDs. The only pronounciation problem I have with Turkish is that I from time put the stress on the wrong syllable. In Turkish it's quite unusual to Europeans where the stress is. So the main listening focus for me is to pick up on which syllable the speaker puts the stress. But I see no necessity to make voice recordings for Turkish. Meanwhile I read an interesting post in this forum saying that the quality of different Assimil courses for different languages is not on the same level. For me it's important to know that, because I might buy the Assimil course for Danish one day. Form my experience the quality of "Türkisch ohne Mühe" ist excellent, especially of the audios. In 1994 I bought Assimil "El nuevo Italiano sin esfuerzo" and "Il nuovo spagnolo senza sforzo" without the audio CDs and I worked through the first 15 lessons. Typically, I didn't have the discipline then to continue for long, but as far as I can remember it, I liked the texts. So I cannot say about any of these 3 Assimil courses that it is bad quality. For tomorrow I am planning to continue with Assimil Turkish and next week I want to study Danish again. I worked completely through Assimil Dänisch ohne Mühe and I did like it, but I’m an Assimil-freak, so I don’t know how much my rating should count. And I used it as my first textbook for learning Danish, that makes it different, too.
Although the Assimil books for Norwegian and Swedish are more comprehensive – both have 100 lessons, whereas Danish only has 64 (or 68?) lessons – I found the Danish one good for me as a starter. But I’ve read bad comments from others. I recommend that you have a look at the book yourself in a bookstore. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

ENG: Glossia.passion, I have two other Danish textbooks waiting for further study, so it's not necessary buying Assimil Danish right now. My two local bookshops never have any Assimil books in stock, so if I buy it, I have to order it right away.
NL: Dit weekend zal ik doorbrengen bij mijn familie, die ik al een jaar niet meer heb gezien. Ik ben nog met een les Deens bezig, maar ik weet niet, of ik deze morgen nog kan afmaken, voordat ik naar het station vertrek. Anders wordt het maandag dat ik hier mijn les Deens kan posten. NED: Ik heb dezelfde "CD-to-mp3" methode met de Pimsleur lessen, dus ik kan overal ze bij me heb. Maar ik moet ook Assimil "Dutch with Ease". Het is volledig en compact. Ik denk dat ik heb gelezen in dit forum, dat de oude "Dutch Without Toil" beter is. Ik heb ook gelezen op de kwaliteit van de cursus is anders, met verschillende talen. Ik heb niet de audio. Volgende keer Ik koop Assimil, Ik denk dat het beter is de audio te kopen. Prettige weekend! ENG: I do the same CD-to-mp3 method with Pimsleur lessons, so I can have them with me everywhere. But I also have Assimil Dutch with Ease. I like it, it is comprehensive and compact. I think I have read in this forum that the old Dutch without Toil is better. I have also read the quality of the course is different, with different languages. I do not have the audio. Next time I buy Assimil I think it is better to buy the audio. Interessante info dat twee versies van Assimil Dutch van kwaliteit zouden verschillen. Van Assimil Turks bestaat geen oudere versie. Ik vind het eingenlijk een beetje jammer dat ik het Duitse Assimil leerboek heb aangeschaft en niet het Nederlandse leerboek van Assimil voor de Turkse taal. Maar oorspronkelijk wilde ik Assimil samen met mijn Duitse studiepartner doen, dus ik kon niet voorspellen dat ik toe zelfstudie zou overgaan. Fasulye 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

ZELFSTUDIE TALEN - STAND VAN ZAKEN Ik heb nog een halve les Deens liggen, die ik nog ten einde moet bewerken, maar ik kan nu niet afzien, wanneer ik eraan toekom. Ik heb vandaag de dag mijn Nederlandse vriend hier in de grensstad ontmoet en ik heb vandaag (in Duitsland is mei-feestadag, dus alle winkels waren gesloten) de boekenwinkel bezocht en daar wat inkopen gedaan. Het is taalrevevant, dus zodoende wil ik erover berichten: Ten eerste heb ik een Nederlands schaakboek gekocht, waarin 10 grootmeesters-partijen instaan plus wat achtergrond informatie over recente ontwikkelingen in de Nederlandse schaakwereld, geschreven door Jan Timmann. (= één van de twee beroemdste Nederlandse schaakgrootmeesters) Verder heb ik uit de kwalitatief uitstekende serie "Capitool Reisgidsen" een Nederlandstalige reisgids voor heel Denemarken gekocht. Er staat ook behoorlijk veel info over Köbenhavn in, dus dat zal me volgend jaar voor het congresbezoek daar van pas komen. Dus dan heb ik nu een reisgids van hele goede kwaliteit en bovendien nog in een vreemde taal. Ik heb een probleem met mijn wooordenboek Deens-Duits/Duits-Deens, dit is van Langenscheidt, maar de schrift is heel erg klein, dus ik moet dat dicht voor de ogen houden of steeds van bril wisselen, dat is heel onhandig. Daarom ben ik op zoek naar een Nederlandstalig woordenboek Deens. Ik heb dus in de boekenwinkel de verkoopster laten rechercheren. Er bestaat een hardcover-woordenboek in twee delen, 2 x 60 EUR, maar dat zal pas vanaf september weer leverbaar zijn. Dit woordenboek wil ik heel graag bestellen, maar ik wacht ermee af tot september. En ik heb nog een dierendocumentatie-DVD gekocht. In Nederland is dat in het algemeen zo dat in het de DVDs in het Engels besproken zijn met erbij Nederlandse ondertitels. Bij deze DVD, die ik vandaag heb gekocht, kan ik ook niet van taal wisselen. Volgende week zal ik wat plichten hebben, die op mij wachten, dus betwijfel of ik veel aan talenstudie zal toekoemen. Tussendoor zal ik een beejte in mijn "Wortschatz Dänisch" en wat audios beluisteren onderweg, maar of ik daadwerkelijke studie kan doen, dat zou ik niet weten.
