SELF-STUDY DANISH: Unit 13 of "Einstieg Dänisch", Week 18 I spent almost the whole weekend in the Netherlands having Dutch immersion there. So this was language efficient, but not for my Turkish or Danish. Meanwhile I have studied the whole Unit 13 which deals with two women shopping for clothes. The vocabulary is centered on different clothes, sizes and colours. Some Danish colours: blå = blau brun = braun grøn = grün (Grønland!) grå = grau gul = gelb hvid = weiß rød = rot sort = schwarz See the famous Danish tongue twister: Rød grød med fløde. = Rote Grütze mit Sahne. There are some Danish modal verbs = auxiliary verbs presented: 1. kunne = können Vi kan tage metroen. Jeg kan godt tænke mig en røde kjole. 2. måtte = dürfen Du må ikke ryge her. Må jeg gå nu? 3. skulle = sollen Skal vi gå derhen? Du skulle tage den sorte kjole. Jeg skal til concert i morgen. 4. ville = wollen, möchten Jeg wil gerne have en kop kaffe. Vil du godt give mig opskriften? Jeg wil tage de sorte sko. I was a pity that I didn't have the time to study all this in two days, but I had to spread the whole lessen over a long period. IN-BETWEEN, Week 18 I am a bit lagging behind my own language learning targets. What I do a lot is listening to my audio-CDs with my MP3-player. This week I was listening intensively to my Danish lessons. I could do this in the launderette, where I had to spend a lot of time doing my washing. Concerning the real study work of new units I missed free time for that. I have a minijob now, but the employment office forces me to continue applying for jobs (with more working hours!). Therefore I spend my time with writing applications and taking part in job interviews - wheras I would rather concentrate only on my minijob and do more quantity of language studies. What a pity! EVALUATION OF DANISH READING SKILLS Today I had the experience that I read one of Iversen's Danish posts and I could understand it quite well without looking up too many Danish words. What I now want to know is, whether this is significant for my Danish reading ability in general and in how far I can conclude improvements in my Danish reading skills. Here in this forum there are plenty of interesting posts in Danish, so I will take 4 others, read them by looking up unknown words, to have a selection of 5 posts in total. The result of this experiment I will comment here in my TAC - log. So I'm curious what the result will be... RESULT NR.1 EVALUATION DANISH READING SKILLS I have received good advice from Iversen - who has abundant experience with word counts of foreign languages - how to measure reading skills in a reliable way. So I took a random text of a Danish newspaper: Hâb for folk med kroniske smerter - from: Ârhus Stiftstidende (12-5-2010) This text has 124 words and I had to look up 17 unknown Danish words.
