CLASS REUNION IN A DIFFERENT TOWN This weekend I will have an important class reunion in the town where I went to grammar school (Gymnasium). I will stay in a hotel there. Probably I will have some spare time before in the afternoon the class program will start. MY CLASS REUNION OF MY GRAMMAR SCHOOL IN A TOWN NEAR-BY BONN This weekend I had one of my two main highlights of the year celebrating the 30th anniversary of my Abitur school exam. I made a train travel to the town near-by Bonn and I had to stay in a hotel there. Fortunately this was only 5 minutes away from the restaurant where we had our main celebration in the evening. It was a girls' school and 27 of 40 classmates attended the meeting. I hadn't seen them for at least 10 years or longer, but all of them recognized me at once. So apparently my outer appearance hasn't changed very much. Before the big dinner we were guided around in my old school by a former classmate who works now as a teacher there. She appeared to be really well-informed about all details and developments of my school. The guided tour through my school was very informative for all of us. Now let me talk about the language topic of my school. When I was a pupil there, the official choice of foreign languages was: 1. English = first foreign language, compulsory, class/grade 5 2. Choice between French and Latin = second foreign language, compulsory, class/grade 7 3. Choice between French and Latin = third foreign language, voluntary, class/grade 9 > Ancient Greek was a special project outside of the curriculum There was no fourth modern foreign language offered, this was the only reason why I decided to learn Ancient Greek. Yesterday I got to know that my school now offers Spanish as an official school language for the "Gymnasiale Oberstufe" = the classes/grades 11-13. This means that the pupils can now choose Spanish as an Abitur subject, if they wish. To prove this I took a photo of Spanish language resources in my school:

This was very interesting! 40 peopl were in your class?? Wow, it's many ! In my class are usually 6, sometimes 8 and in my old school about 20 or 25. It's veyr good that they can learn Spanish, in my opinion this is an important language. It's a surprise that in a gymnasium Latin and Ancient Greek aren't often chosen I think. It was a girls' school, therefore not some boys at all? My best friend's a boy, althouhg sometimes he's annoying but my other friends are girls, mostly (iv'e about 5 friends in my real life, I mean not from this forum or the other one). We were two classes, class A with 20 pupils and class B with 20 pupils and in the "Oberstufe" the courses of choice were mixed with pupils from class A and class B.Therefore the whole "Jahrgang" always celebrates the class reunions together. At my school time it was a girls' school and today it still is a girls' school. They partly have a cooperation with a boys' school, however. Pupils choosing Latin was 1/3 of my "Jahrgang", that means classes A and B together. I did my "Graecum exam" of Ancient Greek (which had nothing to do with my Abitur exam) with 3 other pupils - maybe, but I'm not sure - as the only ones of my school. A course of Ancient Greek was only seldom offered at my school. But I rather would have chosen such a language as Spanish (or Italian, Dutch or...any other modern language) right away instead of Ancient Greek. Ancient Greek has a lot of prestige, but in my case it had zero practical use. Spanish has no special prestige, but you can use this language in many ways. SELF-STUDY DANISH: Unit 14 of "Einstieg Dänish", Week 22 WOW, I have finally managed to study a Danish lesson! I should add that I have to deal since weeks with a crappy health. I'm not sick, but my sleep is so irregular and short that I'm rather tired during daytime and cannot concentrate well. I'm always very motivated to study my languages and language enthusiast, but under these circumstances I could almost not study nor do other intellectual things like reading an astronomy magazine. I was already happy that I could at least got to work without showing low performance there. Unit 14 of my textbook deals with a very boring topic: Gossip (in German: Klatsch und Tratsch) about all kinds of family members. I would very quickly fall asleep, when I hear such talks and I was quite bored by reading the two dialoges in my textbook this time. But at least I should know the names of the different kinds of family members. Let me list them: - en mor = eine Mutter - en far = ein Vater - et barn, to børne = ein Kind - en datter, to døttre = eine Tochter - en søn = ein Sohn - en søster = eine Schwester - en bror = ein Bruder - en kusine = eine Cousine - en fætter = ein Vetter - en niece = eine Nichte - en nevø = ein Neffe Let me write a small essay on this topic in Danish: MIN FAMILIE Jeg har en far og sin kaereste, en bror og en søster. Min bror og min søster er tvillinger. Min bror er gift og har to børn, en datter og en søn. Også min søster er gift og har to sønne. Det betyder jeg har tre nevøne og en niece. Jeg er 4,5 år ældre (als) min bror og min søster, men jeg er ikke gift. Of course also in this unit there were some exercises offered, so let me show you an extract of my worksheet:

Fint arbejde - men der er blandt andet nogle få flertalsformer, der skal rettes (to børn, to døtre, sønner, nevøer).
Der er en enkelt problemstilling, der vedrører flere af dine eksempler: "sig" og "sin" (samt bøjningsformer heraf) viser generelt tilbage til et subjekt i 3. person. Derfor hedder det "Han kunne tænke sig et nyt slips". Sætningen "Jeg har en far og (hans) kæreste" overholder subjektsreglen, men lyder forkert - du 'har' jo ikke på nogen måde din fars kæreste. Derfor: "Jeg har en far, og han har en kæreste". Eller med pronominer: "Jeg har min far, og han har sin kæreste". Sammenlign dansk og tysk: "Ich habe sein Buch gelesen", men "Jeg har læst hans (eller hendes) bog" Hoffentlich kannst du bald wieder ungehindert studieren - es ist nicht leicht harte Arbeit zu leisten, wenn man konstant schläfrig ist. Man kann so gut wie gar nichts lernen, wenn man ständig übermüdet ist, weil dann die Konzentrationsfähigkeit fehlt. Das Problem besteht nach wie vor. Durch diese Umstände komme ich zur Zeit nicht weiter mit meinem Sprachenstudium. Fasulye 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
