Wenn ich Zeit habe, werde ich in meinem Log einen kurzen Bericht auf Dänisch über das Spiel schreiben, das wäre eine gute Sprachübung. Aber vor Dienstag werde ich dazu nicht kommen. (einschließlich des Ergebnisses natürlich) Als Thema für einen Essay bietet sich soetwas an. Manchmal suche ich nach Themen, die nicht zu kompliziert sind, denn über komplexe Sachen kann ich auf Dänisch noch nicht schreiben. Uebrigens bin ich absolut ein Fan von diesem dänischen Fußballlied! NEXT TASK: GENERAL REVISION - VOCABULARY REVISION (after my pause of language learning) NL: Ik ben niet gemotiveerd om in het Deens iets over de voetbalwedstrijd Denemarken - Nederland (0 : 2 voor Nederland) te schrijven, want het was gewoon een hele saaie wedstrijd, dus eigenlijk niet de moeite waard om te bekijken. Daarom ben ik ook al na de eerste helft van het spel van mijn "publik viewing" plaats in het café vertrokken. Nederland heeft nu de punten van een gewonnen spel binnen, maar daarmee is ook alles gezegd. EN: Today I visited the library to test my intellectual concentration fitness (which I need for successful language learning) and I appeared to be capable to read through a whole astronomy magazine (in German). Yeah, this was a real good sign! As I had to pause with my language learning for 4 weeks - my last Turkish lesson was posted on 15 May 2010 - with only one Danish lesson in-between which I could squeeze in, I now have to do extra repetitions in both languages, but mainly for Turkish as I have to deal with quite some vocabulary, which doesn't stick in my head. So from now on I will develop some ideas for repetition. One for Turkish is to take my handwritten vocabulary book and make one sentence with each of the words. This is a method which I used for my pupils when I did private language teaching. For example I gave my pupil as a homework to create sentences with 20 words of the vocabulary list. Doing this you have to activate your language skills and the new words will stick better in your head, because you have already used them. I have already created some Turkish sentences - very simple ones - and I will post them in my log tomorrow. And I will continue making sentences... So this repetition project will be a lot about creating simple sentences in my target languages with every new word. I have to check, if this is necessary for Danish as well. For Turkish this is MORE than necessary, because otherwise I would get a gap of vocabulary knowledge. I had such a vocabulary gap (and a real big one!) when I attended my VHS Turkish courses in the 1990s and I don't want to make the same mistake again. This is interesting, Fasulye. It seems similar to exercises in my Dutch Assimil book. In these exercises, there are vertical lists of subjects, verbs, objects, and pronouns positioned side by side, and they all can be mixed in any order to form new sentences. The Assimil method tells you to mix the words and repeat them as quickly as possible, and I think the speed, the act of repeating them out loud, and active concentration on the meaning WITHOUT consciously translating word for word is what helps activation. What I like about your method is that you are using similar concepts, but you are using your own vocabulary about things that you discuss and are interested in anyway. I must confess though, that I haven't been putting much time into the Assimil, although I take it with me many places. (For example, I'm sitting in a hotel room now, and it's on the table in front of me). Perhaps it's because I don't have the audio, and a mixture of audio and written materials I think works the best for me. TURKISH LANGUAGE PRACTISE: CREATING SENTENCES WITH VOCABULARY Thanks for your feedback, Hobbema. It is always appreciated. I will first explain my method to the readers: In my vocabulary book on page 1 I have a list with 17 Turkish words and their German translations. I took each of these 17 words and made an easy sentence with it to make use of it with the intention to memorize the words better. There will be mistakes in these sentences, so please don't take them as a reference. Here we go: 1. meşrubat (anti-alcoholic drink): Türkiye'de meşrubat içmeye mümkün. 2. sosis (saussage): Vejetaryen olarak hiç sosis yemem. (CORRECTED) 3. viski (whisky): Viski içkidir. 4. patates (potatoes): Almanya'da insanlar sık sık patates yiyor. 5. sucuk (Turkish saussage): Sucuk Türk sosisdir. 6. salam (salami saussage): Almanya'da akşam yemeği olarak salam yiyorlar. 7. köfte (Frikadellen) : Peter Bey Türk lokantada her hafta köfte yer. 8. İrlandalı (Irishman/woman): The Irish Polyglot İrlandalıdır. 9. halk (das Volk): Türk Halk Müziğini sevmiyorum. (CORRECTED) 10. hepsi (alltogether): Bu Türk malı hepsi 300 YTL. 11. ne kadar (how much): Bu mavi pantalon ne kadar? 12. kutu (die Schachtel): Şu sigara kutusu çok büyük. 13. tamam (OK): Tamam, bir şeyi kabul ediyorum. (kabul etmek = akzeptieren, zustimmen) 14. uzun (long): Bu ekmek uzun ömürlüdür. 15. taze (fresh): Türk süpermarketinde süt her gün çok taze(dır). (CORRECTED) 16. yarım (half): Yarım litre süt almak istiyorum. 17. sık sık (often): Sık sık kütüphanede Türkçe ögreniyorum. (Corrections are very welcome!) If we can become the translation of those 17 words, we could begin understanding, because some words are

NL: Ik zal nog meer van dat soort taaloefeningen doen. Bedankt voor het advies, Staf, om de oefening wat begrijpelijker voor lezers te maken, die geen Turks studeren. Dus in de toekomst zal ik de woorden waar het om gaat in het Engels of het Duits vertalen. De hele zinnen zal ik niet vertalen, want dan ben ik meer met vertalingen bezig dan met het maken van Turkse zinnen. Ik weet ook niet of iemand mijn zinnen gaat corrigieren. Ik heb contact met een native speaker in Turkije, maar wij hebben een technisch e-mail probleem, daarom kan ik aan haar zulke zinnen niet ter correctie insturen. 1. Türkiye'de meşrubat içmeye mümkün I couldn't understand this sentence. 2. Vejetaryen olarak hiç bir sosis yemem There is an adjective/adverb mistake, here. If the intent was I never eat saussages as an vegeterian then the never word should be fixed. Both in English and Turkish, never is used as an adverb of frequency, which means it modifies the verbs. So, this adverb of frequency modifies the verb to eat (:yemek) and is used as only hiç. Hiç: any/never/no – as an adverb Hiçbir: any/never/no – as an adjective Hiçbir is the adjective which modifies the noun in a sentence As in example: I don't like any saussages. - Which saussages? - Any saussages. So that is used as an adjective. However in abovementioned sentence: I never eat saussages, never modifies the verb. It defines how frequently I eat saussages. So in Turkish, in case of adverb of frequency it is used as hiç. Which is Vejeteryan olarak hiç sosis yemem.. 8. The Irish Polyglot İrlandalıdır I don't understand the intent of it. 9. Türk halk müziği sevmiyorum In this sentence sevmek verb is transitive so accusative case is used. However when constructing of "Turkish Folk Music" in Turkish, we already use the accusative case. Türk Halk Müzik+i = Türk Halk Müziği. But that one is just for forming of "Turkish Folk Music" phrase. Further accusative case for the structure of the sentence should be used, too. I dont like Turkish Folk Music. Türk Halk Müziği+i sevmiyorum With usage of blending letter +n; It takes this shape: Türk Halk Müziğini sevmiyorum. 10. Bu Türk malı hepsi 300 YTL If the intent was This Turkish goods is altogether 300 TL Tamamı is much preferred instead of hepsi. 15. Türk süpermarketi süt her gün çok taze. If the intent was Milk of Turkish supermarket is very fresh everyday then it should be fixed. It is Türk süpermarketinin sütü her gün çok taze(dir). However natively it is used as Türk süpermarketinde süt her gün çok taze(dir). That means: In Turkish supermarket, milk is very fresh everyday. And if we mention a general statement then we may use plural for "supermarket". So it is: Türk süpermarketlerinde süt her gün çok taze(dir).
