CLUB ACTIVITIES I have terminated the membership of my astronomy club by 31 December 2010. This club will move to other premises which are not well reachable for me. As I will have a free Friday evening from next year on this gives me the possibility to join my previous Scandinavian Club again. As a guest I may visit their club evenings until the end of the year to become a member of the Scandinavian Club from next year on. This will be a good inspiration for my possible visit of the "Universala Kongreso" in Kopenhagen 2011. I will have to match the visit of the congress in Denmark with some work circumstances, so it's not for 100 % sure that I can go there. CLASS LEARNING REPORT 1. MY English COURSE (C1 - level) My last English lesson was 100 % fun! We were with the complete group of 16 people discussing in a vivid and balanced way interesting topics. There are no dominant people in this class, so everybody gets the equal chance to speak English and say something substantial. We discussed the succesful rescueing of the miners in Chile. After this topic we had a brainstorming about "Wales". I didn't know so much about Wales but everybody knew some details and two classmates even have travel experience with Wales. At the end you get quite some information about this part of the UK. 2. MY Danish COURSE (A1 - level) What strikes me is that of 12 participants there are always 3-4 people missing in the lessons. I have the impression that my classmates don't do much study work at home, if they do any at all. The teacher requires no extra work, so it's my own initiative how much I study for myself. I do it in the same way as with self-study, I listen to the audios several times, read texts aloud, read the grammar explanations carefully, go through the vocabulary lists in the back of the book, copy the vocabulary into my vocabulary book and pay attention to the stem forms of the Danish verbs. We had now 4 lessons and have worked through 2,5 units of our textbook. So it's quite a low speed, but faster than the speed of my former Turkish VHS-course. In this course I profit a lot from my self-study experience of the past year. Without my self-study skills this course would be less efficient, because the teacher doesn't give enough hints on which things to focus. 3. THE SCANDINAVIAN CLUB There will be a club meeting this evening. The topic will be Norway. If it's an interesting meeting, I will write a bit in Danish about it. DIA-SHOW OVER IJSLAND EN NOORWEGEN NL: Ik zou teveel Deense woorden moeten opzoeken, daarom schrijf ik liever in het Nederlands. De voordracht had de titel: "Winter im Norden" en er werden allerlei sneuuwfoto's getoont. A. IJSLAND De foto's waren genomen, voordat de Ejafjällajökull vulkaan uitbrak. Er waren de "Blauwe Lagune", watervallen, gletsjers en geysieren te zien. Dus allemaal natuurlangschappen behalve weinige foto's van Rejkjavik. B. NOORWEGEN Het ging om een scheepsreis langs de "Hurtigruten" tot het Nooordkap, die gemaakt werd in maart. Zodoende was er nog volop sneeuw te zien. Belangrijke begrippen voor de geografie van Noorwegen zijn "Schären", "Fjorde" en "Sunde", eigenlijk zou ik die woorden in de Wikipedia moeten opzoeken. Het clublid had op die reis ook het noorderlicht in groen en rood gezien, één keer zelfs in de kleuren geel, rood en paars. Ze zei dat je door het noorderlicht heen de sterren aan de hemel kunt zien. De noordelijkste plaats van de reis was het stadje Kirkenes dat dicht bij de Russische grens ligt. Bij de grens zelf was een groot bord te zien, waarop stond "Schengen border". Het was een lange vordracht met heel veel mooie dia's, voor mij was het de tweede keer dat ik foto's van een reis langs de "Hurtigruten" heb gezien. "Hurtig" is dus ook een Deens woord en betekent "snel, vlug". De "Schnellzug" heet dus "hurtigtog" in het Deens. Maar wij zeggen niet "hurtigtog", en ze zijn niet bijzonder snel. In de jaren '30 introduceerde onze nationale spoorwegmaatschappij een aantal nieuwe treinen en noemde hen "lyntog" (blikstrein), en er zijn nog "Intercity lyntog" - maar ze doen niet meer met bliksem snelheid draaien dan de anderen, ze doen gewoon minder stops.

Det er interessant at vide, Iversen. Saturday, 04 November 2010 CLASS LEARNING EXPERIENCE, Week 5 So I have had 5 lessons now with both language courses, English and Danish. 1. English C1 - level In English we talked about a news topic and afterwards we had a brainstorming about cottages in Great Britain. The teacher devided our class into small groups of 3 and we were asked to describe a typical cottage how we would imagine it to be. Then all groups had to present their results and and they were compared in class. 2. Danish A1 - level We worked through the next part of Unit 3 of our coursebook "Vi snakkes ved", but we haven't finished this unit yet. The topic are situations in a café or bistro. So I have leared quite some Danish food and drink now. For example there's the typical "gulerodskage" in Danmark which is made of carrots and which is completely unknown in Germany. Also "smörrebröd med rejer" (with crabs) is something which I have never eaten. I will do some audiotraining to repete Unit 3 and then move on to Unit 3 of my Turkish book "Günaydin". SELF-STUDY TURKISH I have studied Unit 3 of "Günaydin" yesterday and today, which went quick, as the whole vocabuary and grammar was already known to me. I will move on to Unit 4 tomorrow and I expect that it will go as easy as with Unit 4. I like the systematical aprroach of "Günaydin" very much as this differs a lot from my previous textbook "Lextra Sprachkurs Türkisch". DANISH COURSE LESSON Yesterday I came home from my Danish course on foot in the pourring rain. I was completely wet! My coursebook presents at the end of each unit a text which is on a higher level than the unit itself. This time it was a text about "pölsevogn" (for hotdogs) at the airport. All of us had to read the text aloud in the class, after our teacher had read it slowly two times. There is no audio of this text on my CDs. I made only 2-3 small mistakes (for example with the word "af" I said "af" but it should be "ä".) There was quite a level difference of the readings in class. As my self-chosen homework I typed this text with my virtual keyboard and then copied it into Google Translate to have it translated into Dutch.
