TURKISH COURSE ADULT EDUCATION CENTRE (EAC)
The EAC will still be closed on this day, because it is the last but one day of the official Christmas school holidays in NRW. Therefore there will be no lesson of my Turkish course. The last lesson of this course will take place on Monday, 13 January 2009.

OUR PRIVATE STUDY GROUP AT THE LIBRARY
Because of my work I arrived a bit later at the library today, so W. and I, we had to stick to our schedule and had less chance for a bit of small talk before our session. In our workbook "Güle Güle" Unit 11 we read the grammar clarifications together and afterwards we presented the excercises we both had prepared at home to each other. This went smoothly without major mistakes on his or my side. For me Unit 11 has rather been an easy unit, because the grammar around "ile" = "with" had already been known to me.
For example:
1. Ne ile? = With what?
bisiklet ile = with a bicycle
Neyle = With what?
bisikletle = with a bicycle
2. Kim ile? = With whom?
Barbara ile = with Barbara
Kimle? = With whom?
Barbara'yla = with Barbara
So today we could finish all of Unit 11 in our workbook "Güle Güle". Therefore our task is now to start preparing Unit 12 at home.
By the way, the coming Saturday I will go to the cinema again to watch the next Turkish film there. I am looking forward to this Turkish immersion and I will write a report for my TAC log.

TURKISH FILM IMMERSION AT THE CINEMA
My visit of the cinema today was planned as a Turkish language immersion of about 2 hours time.
It was a Danish film produced in Kopenhagen with the title "Fightgirl Aicha".
A short summary of the contents of this film:
As a daughter of Turkish immigrants in Copenhagen her working parents want her to fulfill their dreams and to study medicine. Therefore she needs to be good at school, but Aicha has other plans - the wants to become a Kung Fu fighter. At a professional club, where men and women train and fight together, she starts training Kung Fu.First her family is not informed about her trainig activities in this club. There she has a lot of contact with her Danish Kung Fu training parntner Emil, who gets a crush on her. When her family members discover this, some dramatic conflicts arise between Aicha's way of life and her Turkish family traditions.
The film had previously been announced as "original Turkish with German subtitles", but appeared to be bilingual Turkish / German. The conversations between Aicha's parents and other family members were in Turkish with German subtitles and all the rest of the speaches, which were originally in Danish, were dubbed in German. Therefore the mayority language of the film was German, which was a disadvantage for my Turkish language assimilation. I found the Turkish language scenes a bit too short and concerning Aicha's father I had the impression that he spoke a kind of Anatolian dialect, it didn't sound high Turkish to me. Aicha's mother for example I could unterstand much better.
My opinion of this film:
Bu cok dramatik bir film, fakat enteresan. Maalesef filmde cok fazla almanca konusuyorlar.
English translation: This is a very drammatic but interesting film. Unfortunately they speak too much German in this film.
I will keep an eye on the cinema program for the next Turkish film immersion.

What a pity! I would like to watch that movie, but in Danish. I wish you more luck with your next Turkish film.
By the way, are there lots of Turkish people living in your area? I always thought, that Turkish is one of the best languages to get "native contact" here in Germany.

Of course you will not get the chance of watching such a film in Danish in Germany, because in our country the films are always dubbed in German. If you want the Danish version, you will have to watch it in Denmark or to order the Danish DVD via internet.
Yes, there are lots of Turks living in my city, which gave me the inspiration to learn the language. I am a regular customer in Turkish grocery shops and have quite some Turkish pop music on cassettes, which I have bought in a Turkish shop here.

Today I went on a walk through the city and I passed by my Turkish supermarket, which of course, was closed on a Sunday. But at the windows there were several posters with announcements in Turkish. I was very surprised that most of the information (words and short sentences) I could already understand, because this had never happened before. This is a real progress, because before that I always stood in front of such posters without understanding enough of it. So this really gives me a kick!

As far as I remember you have written somewhere that you don't have epiphany moments. But this seems to be something in that direction. Good luck!
