Just to let you know, Iversen, the video on Decoding seems to not be working correctly. The video and audio keep getting mismatched, and the video moves along at breakneck speed while the audio is at normal speed. Is this just me, or do others see this as well?

edit: It "fixes" itself a few times throughout, and stays corrected for a while, but the problem seems to be throughout the video as a whole. I don't know if it cropped up upon uploading or some other time.

No, something went wrong with the recording. Each time I record a segment it is broken into pieces by the program, and for some reason the video raced along leaving the sound behind within each of these pieces. There isn't anything I can do about it except rerecording the whole thing - but then I would have to reconstruct the content. I'll probably do it, but I can't say when. I uploaded the video in spite of the problem because I have been postponing and postponing and somewhere it just had to stop.

I'll make a notice at the video to warn people.

EDIT: I listened to the 'bad' video and made a list of the topics, ... but even through I did get through the same topics and reused some formulations it became a quite different video, so at the end I let the original version stay visible. That's one of the dangers of speaking without a manuscript!

And while my machine was working overtime I watched two very interesting video clips by an American lady by the name of Katrudy - 9 languages on her score board, and she speaks them well.

to Fasulye: I'm afraid that the last video is spoken as fast as the preceding ones - that's simply my normal speech tempo. My mother and sister also say I speak too fast.

YOUR FIRST VIDEOS ON YOU TUBE

I was already watching your videos a bit yesterday evening, when you were uploading them. These 7 videos give useful summaries of your learning methods as descbribed in your forum postas here and in your "Guide to Language Learning". I like the fact that you show your charts in such videos and explain them to the audience. In parts of your videos you speak very fast, so its diffcult for me to follow and to concentrate on the contents. Other parts are spoken at a lower speed which enhances my own concentration a lot. So my advice would be to speak more slowly in general in your videos. Of course I knew your opinion and experiences of language learning before I watched your videos because you have written so much in this forum, but it has even become more clear for my that I am quite a different of language learner who still likes to work with "idiotic" textbooks very much and only uses grammar books for reference - which doesn't occur so often. My whole way of studying and using languages is different, I am much aware of it, when I listen to your videos. It's a good idea of you to present your language learning methods on You Tube and I wish you that you will keep your inspiration and continue having fun with it.

VIA YOU YUBE VIDEO "BILLINGUAL TEXTS"

EN: Meanwhile I have adapted to your fast way of speaking so that I understand your videos better.

It is nice to hear that Fasulye has adapted to my speed of speech - and I'm especially relieved as it would be difficult to change a habit that is more than 50 years old. And as she points out you can also use Google translations into a L2 which you know very well - in her case Dutch. I often translate from something into English because I know that all translating activity in Google goes through English, and then I may be able to avoid some 'second round' translation errors by stopping at the middle step. But you cannot trust or even evaluate translations properly that go the other way: from a wellknown language into unknown territory.

I recorded two videos yesterday and one today and compiled them (Latin, English, Danish), and I have just recorded one more in High German. If the quality is OK I'll upload them ASAP to my Yourtube channel. This activity is addictive!

I must say, while I'm happy to see you posting videos, as I find them helpful and insightful, if someone had told me a year ago, "Iversen on HTLAL will one day start making lots of language learning videos and post them on YouTube," I would have laughed long and hard. It's quite out of character for you, or at least that was true for a long while. Cheers to the change of heart, however!
